BIOGRAPHY

Sidhara’s story began anew on the day she turned 100 years old. By this time in her life, she’d already lived through countless days and seen more than most dragons can ever hope to. She’d witnessed the hatching of her great-great grandchildren and laid her own hatchlings to rest. She’d seen the sun set over her beloved Crystalspine Reaches more times than she could remember. But still, she felt that there was more she could give to the world in which she’d lived for so long. She wasn’t ready to go. And so, on the dawn of her hundredth year upon the shores of Sornieth, Sidhara sought the council of a wizard who was rumored to know a way for dragonkind to cheat death.

The ancient Gaoler slowly made her way to the Astrolodome at the center of the Starfall Isles and it was here that she met her wizard.

“I hear you know a way to allow a dragon to live on forever,” she rasped, towering over the tiny Fae who’d seal her fate.

The little dragon nodded. “I do. But first, I must know if your heart is pure. I cannot allow just anyone to remain on Sornieth forever.”

“Very well,” conceded Sidhara. “What must I do?”

“There is an enchanted mirror that once belonged to me,” said the wizard, with a faraway look in his eye. “It was stolen by a Shadow Sprite many years ago and is now hidden somewhere in the depths of the Shadowbinder’s domain. You must find it and return it to me. Then, I can use it to determine your honesty in wishing for such a life of immortality.”

Sidhara hesitated. Though this was what she truly wanted, even she knew that such a journey would be difficult on her aging body. But finally, she nodded. “If I do this for you, you’ll truly grant me eternal life?”

“You have my word,” promised the Fae.

So, off she went. It was a difficult trek out of her homeland and closer to the center of Sornieth. But Sidhara was determined and in the end, she was successful. When she Shadow Sprite attacked, she pinned it down beneath her huge body and bored it to sleep with the longest-winded story she could muster. Stealing back the mirror was an easy task after that.

When she finally returned, the wizard was overjoyed to see his mirror again. “Thank you!” he squealed, regaining his composure a moment later. “Ahem.”

Sidhara’s eyes creased in amusement. “Now then. What do we do next?”

“The rest is up to you. If you look into this mirror, you’ll see a reflection of yourself. This reflection will speak your true reason for wishing to live forever. And if it’s just, then I will proceed with the ritual.”

Sidhara did as she was told. As her eyes met those of her reflection, it indeed spoke to her. “I wish to live forever, so that I may bestow what Sornieth has taught me on the younger generations and stand as a patient guide into their future,” it rumbled.

The wizard looked at her with solemn eyes. “Your heart is kind,” he said. “Let us begin.”

He fluttered to a locked chest across the room and rummaged around for a moment before producing a a rolled scroll. The runes engraved along its edges glowed faintly. “Once I read these words, their effects will be permanent. You won’t have another chance to change your mind.”

“I’m ready.” Sidhara held her head high.

“Then by my power as a wizard of the Arcanist, I invoke this power.” The wizard read the spell aloud and Sidhara’s body began to glow. There was a blinding flash of light! And when it all settled, Sidhara couldn’t believe her eyes. She was a little hatchling again, her body as flexible and new as the day she’d entered this world.

“Thank you!” she cried, leaping up to nuzzle the Fae on his nose, who was now much larger than her.

“You’re very welcome, Sidhara,” he replied, laughing. “And before I forget, I have one last thing to say.”

Sidhara looked up at the wizard with big, round eyes. “What’s that?”

The wizard smiled. “Happy birthday!”
