______Mariano is a strong and experienced warrior and well-versed with the sword. Every day, he trains hard to improve and refine his fighting techniques further, until no other dragon can match up to him anymore. His temper can be described as fiery and explosive. He does not deal well with being taunted and will get aggressive when he feels ridiculed. Disagreements he likes to settle with a fight, regardless of whether he is right or wrong. The truth is, however, that underneath all this anger, Mariano is insecure and struggles greatly with admitting his fear and helplessness. Communicating is one of his great weaknesses, so is empathy. But when someone invests time and patience, Mariano sheds his pugnacity and reveals another side of himself, a side he himself tends to ignore.

______As the fourth child and only son, Mariano was born into a family of wealth and importance. His father, holding the office of a senator in his clan, decided his son’s fate on the day he hatched: Mariano was going to become a warrior, the greatest hero of his time, serving his clan and bringing honor to his family. As soon as Mariano was of age, he was sent away to receive schooling in one of the most renowned academies for fighters and knights.

______Mariano knew the expectations of his family well. Over and over he had heard his father talk about the name he’d make for himself and the glory he’d bring to his house. He was raised to achieve greatness. During his first years in the academy, he worked hard to become the best fighter there was. His fiery and passionate temper and his ambition kept him pushing forward, exceeding his own limits. He’d make his family proud and earn a name for himself, that was Mariano’s only goal. In the process, he did not miss the opportunity to look down on those that could not match up to him.

______However, within the last two years of his education, everything changed. A new student, Eleya, joined his class, wielding both a bow and a spear with incredible precision. Mariano, as the best fighter of his year, challenged her to a duel… and lost. As though the humiliation of lying in the dirt was not enough, Eleya dared to offer him her hand to get back up. Mariano declined. He could not believe he had been beaten. He did not tell his parents, instead started training more and harder. He barely slept, buried himself in practice with his sword. Becoming the best fighter was like a craze he was caught in and he could not escape. He started losing even against those he had easily beaten before. No matter what he did, he could not catch up to Eleya, who was not only good with her weapons but also at an advantage.

______It all came to a sad climax when he only became third in the annual tournament after Eleya and one of those he had looked down on before. Of course, the latter made no secret of his malicious glee. Mariano was fuming with anger, barely holding himself together in front of the judges and spectators. However, when Eleya stepped forward and tried to defend and reassure him, he snapped. Without a warning, he attacked her and caught her by surprise. He overwhelmed her easily and struck her down.

______It was his last day at the academy.

______Humiliated and dishonored, Mariano left his old life and dreams behind. He made his way from one large city to the other, picking a fight with whoever was willing to cross swords with him. He won all of them easily, but his satisfaction was only impermanent. Too deep was the certainty of having disappointed his father’s expectations.

______Mariano continued to move from clan to clan, unsure of his future. Eventually, he made his way to the Snowstorm Haven, where he stayed the night at their hotel. He was heading out the next morning when he stopped and, out of curiosity more than anything else, checked out the arsenal in the clan. There he met Velvet, a hardworking wildclaw and the owner of the building. Mariano's interest in the swords around him lead to the two of them having a chat and ended with Mariano securing a job to work beside her. It wasn't in his agenda, but the coatl is happy to work there now. He trains with Velvet daily and, with the help of her partner, they work on Mariano's temper. Velvet assures Captiosus, who was a little wary with employing a known hot-head in an area surrounded by sharp things, that the coatl continues to improve each passing day.
