A letter from mother
My wonderful son,
The sun shined down happily on me when you hatched from your egg. You poked a single hole, peeked one bright little red eye, and smiled at me. I could have cried from how adorable it was. You were the last to hatch, your sisters had come out just a few hours earlier and were curled to my side. You took your time, though, but we were patiently waiting to see your beautiful little face.
Often I would find you in the gardens, sniffing each plant gently. You'd stay there for hours, careful not to harm anything. I think if I'd have let you, you would have slept amongst the plants and flowers. You told me one day that you wanted a garden of your own. So the clan got together and helped you plant a rose garden in front of the gates to our dens. Your little smile that day could have cured any disease.
I don't know where you will end up, but I hope that wherever it is they will let you have your garden. Know that every night while you are gone I will look at those roses and remember that my handsome, gentle boy cared more for life than I have seen in many millennia.
Forever my love is yours,
Momma
