History

Today was the dreaded day. The wretched day she’d be wed to The King. The handmaidens walked around her fussing with the silks she was to wear, her thick coat to be gleaming, the heavy jewelry. She hated every part of it. It meant nothing to her. She didn’t care about The King waiting for her, he wasn’t the one that held her heart. He’d never be the one to hold her heart. She huffed a sigh, which was ignored by the handmaidens. They probably saw her nervous, not understanding that she wasn’t. If it was her love waiting for her she’d feel happy with the silks, the golden bands, and all the work going into her.

What she wouldn’t have given to be getting ready for her love, but no, it was forbidden for a mortal dragon to be with a god. She ground her claws into the floor. The nearest handmaiden scolded her softly. She resisted the urge to roar at them to get out and never come back, but that wouldn’t change what was happening. Soon enough she’d be walking down the aisle, to the waiting king. She’d look every part the radiant goddess, the pure light, everything that she wanted to be, but not for the king. She glanced over to the small Idol that sat near her study din. It was fairly simple, carved from dark stone, and painted with bright gold where the god was adorned with his jewelry. The idol was of Anubis, her true love, and the god which her studies were devoted to.

She wasn’t the only one angry about the forced marriage. Anubis was raging. He had been sending plagues to force The King to call the wedding off, but it hadn’t. She’d stand before the dusty colored King and would take the vows with no heart, no love because she couldn’t refuse. She had attempted to run away but found herself brought back before she’d gone far. The King had guards posted at her door. She grit her teeth and stood still. Maybe things would change and The King would cast her away for being a bad omen since her love was casting the land in a boil of plagues.
