Zephyr is the founder and first leader of the Ashclan. She willingly gave leadership to her daughter Ash when Ash grew of age, and now serves as one of the clans' most experienced warriors, and as a teacher of combat to new and young members.

According to clan legend, Zephyr was once a Guardian dragon who was exiled from her original clan when she failed to find a charge during her search. Embittered and desperate for a purpose, she fled and did not stop until she reached the southern icefield. There, after weeks of tireless travel, she collapsed, and would have frozen had she not been transformed into a Gaoler (By the Icewarden himself, some claim). Following this, she spent many years training and serving as a Keeper until she grew too old to survive such harsh conditions. At that point she traveled north with her mate Auster and settled in the Viridian Labyrinth, where she would eventually form the Ashclan.

The exact circumstances of Zephyr's transformation remain mysterious to her clanmates, and she herself seems disinclined to reveal the truth. The more pragmatic amongst the clan doubt she was transformed at all, and believe she has always been a Gaoler. Such legends, after all, are often prone to exaggeration.

And yet, her Guardian daughter Ash serves as living proof that Zephyr is not all that she seems.
