A young Pearlcatcher wandered his homeland of the Scarred Wasteland, seemingly searching for something. Night had fallen and it was dark, almost too dark to see but Vinn’s eyes had been in the dark through his travels so many times he had easily grown used to it. The Pearlcatcher paused to rest, the footsteps behind him pausing as well. ”Vinn…” An echoing voice whispered, the sound seeming to surround the Pearcatcher. ”What is it, Niu..?” Vinn asked in return, turning to face the opposite direction. Nothing was there despite footsteps being heard earlier. There was silence for a moment and Vinn seemed to wait patiently until the voice continued. ”Where are we going now, Vinn? Your incessant wandering gets on my nerves. And why here of all places?” The voice known as Niu asked, annoyance in his low toned voice. Vinn only smiled, shaking his head. ”You have no sense of adventure, do you… So boring.” Vinn said playfully, causing his unseen partner to growl in annoyance. ”Hilarious.” The voice growled in return, a figure suddenly appearing behind Vinn. It was a male Coatl with dark purple plumage. His eyes were a bright yellow and stood out in the darkness under the brim of his hat. ”Do you really want to know what is boring? All of this Deities-forsaken walking. If we’re forced to be stuck together, you may as well make it interesting for both of us.” Niu hissed, glaring at Vinn as the Pearlcatcher turned around to face him now that he appeared. ”I have been doing this for years, Vinn… And you are the only host I can never predict.” Niu hissed, frustration in his bright yellow eyes. Vinn watched the supernatural entity for a long while, before simply smiling. ”Well… I suppose that’s the point. If you’re stuck with me, you can’t hurt anyone else.” Was all he said. Niu narrowed his eyes, responding only with silence. There was a pause before the Parasitic Entity spoke again. ”Well, then tell me… Where are we going now?” He repeated. Vinn responded by pointing north with a bit of a smile. ”There’s a Clan in Plague that takes in travelers… Especially travelers under… Strange circumstances. I would count you and I “strange”. An ancient evil entity attached to a young Pearlcatcher…” Vinn said, continuing their walk. Niu followed, tilting his head. ”Clan..? You’re going to a clan? Why would you do that?” The parasite asked, almost seeming bewildered by Vinn’s decision. ”Every other dragon tries to leave their clans in order to prevent hurting them like they’re a hero. Why would you go to one? Aren’t you afraid? Afraid that I will hurt them or hurt you and cause people pain?” Niu hissed, glaring at the Pearlcatcher as if he was truly insane. Vinn stared at him in return, almost startled by the entity’s sudden outburst. He thought for a moment, shaking his head and eventually giving Niu a smile. ”Well, what’s the point of living if you have no one to care about or love? Pain is just another part of life, isn’t it? But the love you find and the people who care for you make it all worth it. And there’s no one to love if you build your walls too high.” Vinn said with a warm smile, walking passed Niu and continuing on his path to a new life. Niu only stood there, wide eyed and completely bewildered. Eventually he snorted and shook his head, vanishing into a puff of violet smoke and disappearing into nothing. However he was still present, always following his host. ”You, Vinn, are grossly optimistic… I hate it.” Niu growled, his voice echoing around Vinn before eventually falling silent as they continued their trek through the dark terrain... |
