Andreas's claws tapped absentmindedly on the cool, dusty tiled floor of the surveillance room.
The screens in front of him flickering and sliding. They were old, misshapen, but he knew The Eye's funding could only reach so far. The nocturne curled his tail over his claws, pondering.
"Sir, exactly why are you in here, again?"
"Same as you. To watch."
More silence. All the two of them could hear were the soft buzzing of the computers in front of them.
He flexed his front claws, taking quick note to sharpen them back at his office. Swiveling his ears around, he continued to wait.
And wait.
What was he waiting for? Not a what, a who.
That who was Earl. See, Andreas always needed to know when his patients would arrive. After all, The Eye refused to use electronic dating systems, instead relying on a torn and musty calendar on the wall.
He moved his head towards the window, slowly raising his body to make his way over. Placing a paw on the sill, his gaze fell across the dark pined woods, dusty snow fluttering across the silver gray fences.
They waited.

The clock seemed to be ticking backwards at this point, but Andreas stood attentively, searching for the right moment. He always seemed to be on time, he could not let this be a time in which he slipped.
Absolute in his correctness.
Never off beat.
That is what he wished to display.

The coatl in front of him looked uncomfortably backwards at Andreas, ruffling out his feathers. Wants to go off duty, can't. he thought, doing a quick scan of their head.
He had become awfully adept at blocking out the voices around him, according to the books telepathy was not a well known or well researched form of shadow magic. Perhaps he could switch to it after his time spent in The Eye.
Focus.

He shifted back towards the screens, noticing a slight twinge of worry and panic.
He's here.
"Well, I feel i should take my leave now.", He rumbled, stretching out his wings and standing up, and making his way to the door, before coming to a sudden stop.
"Sir?"
Panic. True panic. Not just anxiety but pure full-blown PANIC.
Andreas slowly touched a claw to his forehead. Sure, his comrade was always afraid, but this was... Too afraid, abnormal.

He turned around.
"Something is not right."
"Pardon?"
Andreas hurriedly leapt over to the console, nudging Heron out of the way. He found it hard to block it out now, even through the screens as they got closer and closer.
"Why is he..."
"He's running."
Sliding away from the console, he rushed out of the doorway, leaving a stunned Heron to follow after. They just about flew through the halls, claws tearing against the rough tile floor.
The doors swung open, and he caught the pale wildclaw in his wings, nearly knocked over by the weight, leaping backwards as Heron swiftly shut them again.
Silence, Earl was shuddering in his claws. He felt nothing, only the shallow buzz of his own head, but recieved the waves of fear emanating from the pathetic wildclaw's brain. It was quiet now, leaving the three of them shocked, confused and alarmed.
"What's wrong?" Heron said, his eyes flicking between the doors and Earl. "B-b-b-b-ig... cc-ccan-t-t-t-..."
Andreas decided to work his magic, leaning over and giving Earl a comforting stare, before helping them up. "It's okay, talk."
"Its.. It's... Monster... Huge.. Never seen it.. Not in records.. Records.. Not..", he trailed off as Andreas hushed them.
"Calm yourself, what were you running from..."
Earl took a moment to find the right words, before replying. "It was a dragon. Not one we've ever seen before. Those.. Those claws... Those eyes, those horns..."
"Where was it coming from."
"The forest."

And then he fainted.
