Orion

Once a Deeps Oracle, years of ritual and prophecy seeking in the darkest depths have left him unable to see normally. All but the dimmest of lights pain his eyes, and even then he is beset by flickers of visions. Only the complete darkness of the seer's mask gives him relief.

Orion professes to be on an extended holiday, but it doesn't take more than a couple of drinks or a bit of friendly prying to get the truth out of him: this retired oracle is in hiding... from his junior colleagues.

The disappearance of the Tidelord and the cessation of prophecies ruined his retirement. At one time a feted elder whose wisdom and daring were virtues extolled to each new generation, he rapidly became a harried fugitive who had no answer to the constant barrage of 'but what do we do now?!' and no real desire to figure it out. Decades of diving and interpretation had worn away all but the most literal mysticysm of his job, and it was time to find somewhere else to live. Preferably as far away from water as possible.
