Meanwhile at the Poetry Contest

“Spring and fall are one,
Poet's Contest has begun,
Come and have some fun!”

Hemirion weaved through the crowd gathered for Mistral Jamboree, his chant carried through the wind to the ears of anyone who would listen. Gathering potential contestants with his haiku wasn’t the only reason Hemirion was flying through the air, however. He could hardly contain his excitement! Spring and fall together for the Mistral Jamboree? It was the first time in, well, forever! Even if it was in friendly competition. It was plenty to write poetry about!

Hemirion sniffed the fresh air, now rising above the crowd of dragons for an aerial view. Other than the smell of food, likely coming from the Mistral Meals section of the festivities, he could smell the crispness of the air, almost like autumn. But yet, the Windswept Plateau still kept its springlike charms, even if he could see some fallen leaves swirling in the wind.

His gaze shifted over to the Twisting Crescendo; he could see the vortex in the distance spinning in a direction different to what he was used to. He had heard rumors that it was the reason for all the changes in the weather. After all, it had caused some strange changes in magic. It was very possible it caused the season and weather changes as well. He hoped that the Mistral Jamboree would bring up everyone’s spirits. Some of his friends missed the nice spring weather, but that was no reason to pout about it! This is was a time to celebrate and make new friends, especially with those new folks attracked by the change in weather!

The spiral was jolted from his thoughts at the sound of his name being yelled. He looked down to see that one of the judges, Eurus, waving him over. As he flew back down, he noticed there was now a line beginning to form in front of the Poetry Contest registration desk.

“It looks like we’re about to get a bunch of new contestants! Are you the one registering them?” he asked Eurus, unable to keep the excitement from bubbling up in his voice.

Eurus shook his head. “It’s currently Windruffles’s turn, but she’s found something she wants you to see.”

Confused, Hemirion followed Eurus into the back, where Windruffles was standing. “What seems to be the matter?” he asked. while looking around. There didn’t seem to be anything he hadn't seen earlier that day. “There are dragons outside who want to enter!”

“I know, but someone’s left these outside. What should we do about them?” she asked, stepping aside to reveal what she was standing in front of: five giant pumpkins.

Hemirion found the discover a bit underwhelming until he had a great idea. “Decorate, of course!” When the two judges looked confused, he continued, “This is a fall and spring festival, isn't it? Set them up outside. Someone obviously thought we didn’t have enough fall decorations to accomodate the theme!” He looked around for the other two judges. “Sequoia! Abigail!”

The skydancer and spiral looked over from their tasks at his call.

“What is it?” Sequoia asked.

“Do you have time to collect some flowers and leaves? We need more fall and spring themed decorations!”

Sequoia nodded. “I’ll gather as much as I can find!” she chirped and flew off.

Hemirion turned his attention to Abigail. “Can you get those new contestants registered? We can’t keep them waiting!”

Abigail nodded and rushed to the Registration and Security desk, wrapping herself around one of the table legs and already talking to the first contestant. Hemirion nodded and turned his gaze back over to Eurus and Windruffles, a big smile on his face.

“You two come with me. We have a poetry contest to run!”

Hemirion loved poetry almost as much as he loved flight. In fact, up in the air was where he got most of his ideas. He caught them between the loops and swirls as if they were butterflies. Only back in his lair would he closely examine their colors and patterns and let the words flow just as freely as he had moments before.

He often brought his friends along, not only in group flights around the countryside, looking to catch some inspiration, but also wherever there was reading and sharing of poetry. There were always new poets to meet and make friends with. It wasn’t hard for Hemirion to agree to host this year’s Poetry Contest. The contest always brought in new folks to the Windswept Plateau, and therefore, new friends from all over Sornieth!

While the planning and the contest kept Hemirion literally tied in knots ever, he had a wonderful time because he met one of his best friends, XXX. Hemirion had swooned over XXX's way with words and they'd discuss poetry at length, not wanting stop.

(If winner is from Wind flight): Inspired by the weather changes, Hemirion decided to follow XXX back to his/her clan where they could spend lots of time together enjoying the new weather and writing some fantastic poetry. Hemirion left a trail of letters to his friends covered with that poetry, blowing in the wind like butterflies. He and his new best friend had plenty to write about.

(If winner is out of flight): Fascinated and inspired by the weather changes, Hemirion and XXX decided to travel through Sornieth to (enter place of flight here) where XXX’s clan resides. No one can hold it against Hemirion. A wind dragon loves to travel! Until he returns, if he returns, Hemirion will leave a trail of letters to his friends covered in poetry, blowing in the wind like butterflies. He and his new best friend had plenty to write about.
