"Are you certain of this?" Zekari asked, flattening her fins in hesitation. "Once you read the scroll, you won't just be a different kind of dragon. The Gaolers are something we've never seen before."
The spiral looked back at her with a grin. "That's what's so thrilling! And you know me- I've always had a fascination with seeing from other points of view." Deimia was trailing loops in the air in her excitement.
The Gaolers had emerged from the Fortress Of Ends and sent waves through all the regions of Sornieth, even way up north in the Viridian Labyrinth. Then news came that the Gaolers were spreading out into new territories, and Zekari had decided that the Gladeservants must have ambassadors to these terrifying creatures. Having procured a couple of breed-change scrolls from a shady merchant down in the Driftwood Drag, she had asked for volunteers who would visit the Fortress Of Ends to integrate themselves into the Gaoler's society- to which Deimia had eagerly put herself forward.
"...Alright. Here." Zekari handed the sealed scroll to Deimia. "I don't think Gaolers can fly. So you should wait until you're closer to the Icefield before reading the scroll."
"Heh, I'll find a way to fly again eventually. Even if I have to build myself some new wings." Deimia said confidently. "But this mission comes first, of course. I'll be back. You can count on me, Druidess Zekari."
It would be years before the Gladeservants heard anything back from Deimia, apart from the occasional letter. One day, a massive lime green mass of hair and antlers bounded into the Gladerservants communal treeden, startling everyone and almost pulling roots from the ground.
"Zekari! I'm home!" Deimia cried out, her voice now deep and booming.
Zekari approached cautiously. "...Deimia?"
"I did it! I'm officially a Seeker now!" the huge dragon beamed with pride. "It took forever just to get them to trust me- even in my new form... But I did it! I did their tests and trials, and they said I'd make a perfect Seeker." she pawed at the ground in excitement. Deimia still had all the mannerisms and personality of her old Spiral self, and even in such a huge and heavy form, it shined through. "See, I was the fastest runner out of everyone there in the Fortress Of Ends. I can't fly anymore- yet- but I'm still just as fast as I've always been."
The old friends bantered for hours afterwards. Deimia had a new mission to carry out, given by her new allies- seek out and contain the Shade, and any other alien creature that might be a threat to Sornieth.
