Biography

Born and raised in the Tempest Spire, Terry was taught that every problem has a solution. Terry's great problem presented itself to him early in life. Terry's hatching was overshadowed by a death in the family and throughout his childhood he continued to see relatives pay the consequences of Imperials' erratic lifespans. He knew he could not live with this uncertainty, could not turn his back on the painful reality and hope it would not reach him again. He would dedicate his life to finding this fatal flaw in his species and eradicating it. To reach his goal, however, Terry had to leave his homeland. Having worked under the Stormcatcher’s employ for most of his life, Terry knew that he would always have to put the god’s projects over his own if he stayed. So he journeyed north to the Sunbeam Ruins, the birthplace of his species, hoping to find ancient Imperial clans to interview and to arrange an audience with the Lightbringer herself, to implore her to help him fix her mistakes. He was disappointed on both counts. Very few of his species still lived in their homeland and those who did had lost any knowledge of the beginning of things over generations of grief and unrest. Furthermore, he was refused entry to the Beacon of the Radiant Eye, as were the desperate seekers who went before him. His prayers similarly went unanswered.

Very well. Though the Lightweaver refused to help, there were other gods. On every horizon of the Sunbeam Ruins Terry saw water, and this gave him an idea of how to proceed. The Tidelord was known to grant his subjects wisdom and visions of the future; even if he could not undo what the Lightbringer had done, perhaps he could at least provide Terry with knowledge or guidance. And so Terry set off to the bordering Tsunami Flats, looking for a clan of water dragons who would be willing to help him in his quest. Very quickly he found himself greeted by a
Wildclaw who offered Terry refuge in his clan for as long as he would like. However, the clan’s trio of water Mirror dragons were currently on their way back from the Starfall Isles, so he was forced to turn to neighbouring clans for a water dragon to help him scry. Nicholas quickly found a helper for him, a fellow Imperial named Phoebe who was hatched nearby and was intrigued by his quest. She sat for long hours with him, teaching him the ancient arts of her kind and gazing into the water, but Terry never picked up the art of divination. Phoebe continued to scry and pray to her god on Terry’s behalf, but she confided in him that the Tidelord was usually silent on such matters. As the weeks passed, it became increasingly clear that the Tidelord was another dead end and it was time for Terry to move on. However, he found himself unable to do so, now that he had grown so attached to his new friend Phoebe. He decided to stay in Nicholas’s clan permanently, and Phoebe, having recently experienced a death in her own family and in desperate need of change, moved in with him. Soon they had hatchlings of their own and Terry began to think of putting aside his quest.

Then his one of his children died.

This fresh loss put his quest into perspective. He could not afford to turn away from his quest for his sake, for the sake of his family and friends, for the sake of every Imperial dragon in the world who has suffered as he has. This new clan was his home, but he could not stay there. Terry was assigned the job of clan courier and left with his mate’s blessings. Terry resumed his travels, visiting every region and praying to every god, all the while questioning other Imperials about lifespans in the hopes of finding a pattern. Visiting the Starfall Isles for the first time, Terry was hit with an epiphany—not from a god, but from the ingenuity of the dragons he saw around him. While lightning dragons used technology to solve their problems, arcane dragons used magic. Was it not the unstable magical essence of Imperial dragons that gave them such erratic lifespans? Magic had caused the problem and so he knew it must contain the solution as well. From that moment forward Terry became obsessed with magic. His travels as a courier take him far and wide and while he takes the opportunity to visit relatives where he can, he also tirelessly works to recruit other dragons to his cause. When another lightning dragon, Aurora, finally joined his clan, he wasted no time in dragging her into his obsession, even convincing her to carry on his quest in the event of his untimely death. His latest job as clan courier will take him once again to the Starfall Isles for the Starfall Celebration, and he hopes that somewhere in this mass gathering of magical talent is the dragon who will give him his breakthrough.
