Biography

Return to qerrat (#461721) after breeding

One of my first memories was of a net. Of screams. Of pain. I remember the net ensnaring me, tangling my wings and twisting my legs. I was hauled out of the water, and dumped onto a boat. A raid. Pirates. Someone grabbed me and threw me down into the pit, where there were already several hatchlings. A man jumped down, chains dangling from his fist. He began grabbing hatchlings, forcing rings over their mouths, blocking their vision, and chaining them to the floor and walls. When he came to me, he threw the metal band over my snout, almost blocking my vision entirely. He held me upside down and began forcing the cuffs and chains onto my ankles. Then he threw me against the wall, and I awkwardly hung there, hardly able to see, as I listened to the sound of the screams. We traveled many days, at least that's what I think, as I couldn't really tell the difference between night and day. The ship rocked wildly, and the wind and rain poured into our prison. Finally, finally, we arrived at land. The men slid down on ropes, and began unchaining us and throwing us into burlap sacks. The hatchlings were then thrown up out of the pit, where more waiting men caught them. When the man got to me, he thrust the key into the lock, flung off the chains, and stuffed me in the sack. I felt him twirl me once, twice, then let go. I would have screamed, if he hadn't left the metal muzzle on. We were then tossed in a cart, and wheeled away. Through my sack I could faintly make out the moon, so I knew we were traveling in darkness. My stomach ached and my tongue was swollen in need for water. We road throughout the night, and stopped in a large, stony building. I heard the men talking in hushed, hurried voices, and I heard the the sound of coins. Suddenly were were yanked out of the cart, and were thrown on something like a ramp, but it moved. I felt it's jerky movements as it went up, and up, and up, and then I dropped. I fell into a net, where my sack was ripped off. Then the net opened up and I fell again. I fell, hard, on a metal slide. I grunted with pain. I was sliding, now. Sliding around in around, closer and closer to yet another hole. I weakly tried to stop, but I didn't even slow down. Then I fell, again. But this time, into a big gloppy mess. It was like glue, sticking to my body, my feathers, everything. The current, somehow, was extremely strong here, and it was impossible to swim. I felt myself get dragged under, over and over and over again, until I couldn't see and could hardly breath through the mass of glue. A bucket came down and scooped me up, and carried me away. I was placed, carefully I noticed, onto a metal countertop, where I lay, hardly able to breath, let alone move. Slowly, moving even my chest to breath hurt. The glue was drying, I realized. It was in no time at all that I was picked up again, and was placed inside a crate. A bucket zoomed overhead and dumped more glue on me and the crate, then the lid was shut, and I was enveloped in darkness. It wasn't too long before our crates were thrown on yet another cart, and we were wheeled off again. I couldn't move because of the glue, and I was stuck in an uncomfortable upside-down position. We went on and on and on, then came to a stop, so fast, that my crate tumbled forwards and fell. Our driver was talking to another person, but female. There was a rustling of papers, and more tinkling of coins. Then I felt my crate lift, held by the female human. She gently brought me off the cart, and I heard it go away.
"I hate those stupid dealers. Dragons that don't sell are sent to serve the Beastclan god, whoever he is. One day I hope to get him arrested. Oh, well. Let's get you cleaned up." She carried me to a lake, where she set me in the water. She then began hammering away at the lid of my crate, trying to break it off. I could hear her muttering about "stupid glue" and "dragon cruelty". At last, she broke apart the crate. I couldn't see her I was covered in so much glue.
"Seriously? Well, we'll fix it." Then, slowly, carefully, she poured hot water onto my head. First I didn't feel it, but then when I did, it burned. I whimpered softly. "It's ok. I just need to get this glue off, and trust me, it is better than dropping you over and over again." She poured hot water all over me, and eventually she washed me in the lake, and got most of the glue off. Now there was just some goopy stuff on my feathers. She tut-tutted, then began wiping it off with a rag. We must have been there all day, because the sun was setting before she was satisfied.
"There! Now, let me take off this dumb muzzle..." she set to work easing it off, and when she did, she studied a small signature engraved on it. "Hmph, same people. Anyways, hello there! My name is Qerrat, although you should feel free to call me anything. Can I see you?" I nodded slowly. She gently studied my cut sides, feathery wings, and my eyes especially. Afterwards, she carried me home, and fed me slowly back to life. I met my mate there, too! She arrived shortly after me, from Arcane. She said that she had been bred for the sole purpose of money. My sister came shortly after me, and she met her true love, too! We are both very happy now, and I hope it stays this way forever.
