his name is a form of the russian name nadya (Надя), which comes from nadezhda (Надежда), meaning "hope" in many slavic languages.

nadia arrived in arcadia when he was a hatchling, and has not grown. he is Deaf and is able to read, sign, and write, but due to his stunted growth he is stuck with the language skills of a young dragon. still, nadia is very observant and sharp, and has a wonderful eye for patterns and problem solving. he is imogen's assistant and adopted child. due to his small size, nadia can often overestimate his stamina, and end up tiring himself out deep in arcadia's library. his familiar, eilonwy, is always there at his side to help him carry what he's to small to, and to lift him back to his nest when he exhausts himself. elonwy wears a special pack! the surface along her back is rigid and flat and has adjustable straps to aid in carrying books, and the pouches on her sides always carry a few things: in the right pouch there is fresh parchment, a quill made from one of imogen's own feathers (it was a gift from her and is enchanted to always be full of the color of ink nadia wishes it to be), a wax candle, nadia's favorite wooden puzzle, insects to snack on, and dried fruit for eilonwy. the left pouch- is lined with soft cumulus seal fur and is perfectly nadia-sized. it's his favorite place to take a nap.
