INFO

Zannaann was raised by a clan of harpies who had stolen his egg and meant, most likely, to destroy it before he hatched. One way or the other, they ended up hatching his egg instead, and raised him in captivity. Burdened with the risk of a draconic attack, they decided to take the opportunity to train him to be their ally. Since Harpy society was relatively matriarchal, this meant that much of his teaching in linguistic and academic areas was covered by the men within the Talonok empire, while his combat skills were honed by masked harpy warriors. He was taught that he should never attack the Beast Clans, and to mistrust draconic culture, which has stuck with him even after he left that past behind.

Despite their best intentions, Zannaann outlived those who'd sought to use him as a weapon against his own kind, and after living a life on a leash for so long, he was glad to have his freedom. Zannaann had long feared traveling alone, so he found it difficult to navigate at first. His cleverness eventually led him to challenge what he'd been taught, however, and to seek out other dragons for help. He was still afraid, wanted to determine for himself if they were so bad. For better or worse, the first clan he ran into was Nehara clan as they were passing through, and seeing so many other Tundras like himself enticed Zannaann to take the risk of joining them.

He is a deadly fighter, and uses tactics more appropriate to one of the Harpy clans or even to the Deathseeker birds that sometimes work with them; his odd upbringing and vicious nature sometimes make it difficult for him to fit in with the rest of the clan, and he has considered leaving them behind in search of others before. Were it not for his overwhelming curiosity and his desire to have company, he might even have acted on those impulses. He gets exceedingly lonely when sent to do a task by himself, and prefers to be with at least one other dragon; in company, he is extremely talkative.

While he can conceal most elements of his past, there were also some efforts to magically alter him, in the hopes of developing magics that could conceal a creature's true appearance. The plan was to perfect this disguising magic and enable Talonok agents to infiltrate draconic culture unseen. Zannaann remembers little of it now, but the experiments were ultimately deemed a failure, and stopped long before he left that life behind. Overall they don't seem to have had much permanent effect, aside from transforming some of Zannaann's fur into feathered plumage, but it is one more thing that isolates him from the rest of the clan and separates him from his peers.

More recently, a refugee of the Talonok came to the trading post and happened upon Nehara's merchants while seeking sanctuary. Given his upbringing, Zannaann was deemed the ideal candidate to offer their new fugitive friend shelter. He has mixed feelings about it, but since he has not told any of the others in the clan in full detail about his origins, Zannaann is determined to weather his deja vu and unease in the interim. The harpy reminds him strongly of some of his old mentors, which can be good and bad, depending on the day. Fortunately, the harpy is as hesitant about the whole thing as Zannaann is, and the two of them have found they they have quite a bit in common. Though they are an unlikely pair, Zannaann now numbers Alta among his friends.
