Chernok, Construct of Chaos

Chernok is a beast in mind and soul, a creation whose body is held together by metal and cable, but whose mind is left to wander dangerously free of constraint. The Construct of Chaos was built to obey Vorbarra herself, the master artificer of the clan, and he listens to no one else, unless his mistress has obeyed him to do so.

A loyal servant in her presence, he turns into a dangerous unknown when out of her sight. While Vorbarra firmly believes he is little better than the constructs of the golem workshop—except perhaps, more cunningly built and far prettier to look at—others have mentioned the intelligence in his strangely glowing eyes when she is gone, intelligence that has no place in a body so large and strong. He obeys commands to the letter and does nothing beyond that. Once tasked with defending a scouting party from harpy attack, he let them be ambushed and destroyed by a massive rogue pack of steel hounds. His task had been carried out without failure, and Vorbarra became more mindful of her wording in the future.

Currently, he is the supervisor of the main Voltspire assembly line. His presence is an incredible motivator for the factory's workers and not a single defective Creeper has come off the line in over a year. The last dragon to bungle an assembly went missing, and rumor has it that Chernok had something to do with it.

Some have claimed he is not a construct at all, but rather a dragon that has been experimented on and turned into something unnatural. That is the answer to his unnervingly intense gaze and his uncharacteristic intelligence. Few, however, are willing to accuse the master artificer of doing something so horrible.

When Chernok hears these rumors, his expression remains empty and lifeless, but his glowing eyes glitter just a little more brightly.
