When the plague came, Kapnos was very grateful to have met Blizzard and Cerin. Both are able to look at the brighter side of things and were able to keep him from feeling the overwhelming loneliness of being isolated from the rest of the clan. He was very thankful for their more optimistic outlooks. However, Cerin soon began leaving to visit other clanmates in order to cheer them up and stave away loneliness. Both Kapnos and Blizzard urged him not to. The plague was a great danger and neither felt he was taking it seriously, even as he argued that he needed to make sure no one was falling into despair. When Cerin fell ill, Kapnos scolded himself for not pushing harder to keep the coatl from going out. In his eyes, it was a failing on his part. He let his mate continue to put himself in danger and was unable to stop him. |

So, one can only imagine how well he took it when death began to come for those who had fallen ill and when it came for Cerin. The despair Cerin had worked so hard to stave off overcame Kapnos. An air of somber silence filled their den for many days after Cerin was found dead as neither could bring themself to break it. It took some time after, but it was declared that the plague had vanished as there were no new cases and all who had caught it had passed on. A clan meeting was called for those who'd survived and Kapnos felt his heart falter at there only being ten survivors of the old clan. Keeping his head down, Kapnos waited patiently. Despite finally having freedom to go as he pleased, he mourned the loss of so many and of Cerin most especially. The meeting went peacefully until Ilar took problem with Acal openly mourning before the clan. She argued that it was unbecoming of a leader to show such weakness to their clanmates and thus she challenged him for leadership, declaring him unfit to be leader. Acal did not back down at the challenge, but he refused to fight at the moment. So, Ilar took off to form her own group and the remaining clan members broke apart, splitting up to declare alliegence to one side or the other or neither. Blizzard seemed torn between the two, but Kapnos didn't care about sides. When she eventually chose to join Ilar, he followed, unwilling to let go of the remaining mate he had. |
