The cobblestone path is overwhelmed with dark, encroaching black vines; they twist and turn between the stone cracks, reaching back into the shadowy forest brush. Each footstep draws out a cracked hiss as the dry thorns are crushed under your foot. Despite the lingering sense of dread hovering over you, the dilapidated path draws you in further and further. You need this, after all.

She was at the end of it all—that powerful, timeless witch with the cure just as powerful and timeless as she. You'd heard about her in the old tales (everyone in the village had), but never had you known someone to receive her services. When you were young, you thought she was just that: a myth, a story, a legend, something meant to keep the children away from the looming forest. But it was just your fate to wind up here, sickness coursing through your veins in a cruel test of your own doubt.

So lost are you in your self-pity that you nearly pass by the witch's small hut. It is so overgrown with vines that it is almost indistinguishable from the wood around it. Had you not noticed the bit of lush green peeking out from beneath the thorny mass, you might have become lost in the wood for eternity.
