You have made a terrible mistake. You can barely see a foot before you. You thought you had time, but the night has you in its claws. The Hewn Citadel surrounds you, for it is unwise to fly at night. You came here alone, yet you can see flashes of teeth grin against the moonlight. You run, for the sky has no sanctuary. Your lungs puff and huff, but the skitter of claws against the concrete stone urges you on. Shadows in the corner of your eye, running along the thin tops and clearing the gaps between columns effortlessly. You were too slow. She's in front of you-which can only mean he's not far behind. Your claws bury into the ground in a desperate and sudden halt. Lights flare to life before you, instinct demands that your vulnerable eyes be shielded. You gasp for breath, another terrible mistake-you realize. The sweet fragrance of an unknown confection overwhelms you. You open your eyes to the sight of Lex. Wings spread wide, candles afloat around not only you, but her. She's grinning. You haven't even fought, but you've already lost. The world around you suddenly seems brighter. The candles' brilliant shine becomes your focus. The form of the wildclaw and your surroundings begin to melt away just like the wax around wick. Colors dance before your eyes as gentle hums evoke a sense of fatigue. Your legs give out from under you, then your head lays to rest on the soft lush grass. You can hear the giggles of a wildclaw echo through night just before sleep claims you. When you wake, the sun is high in the sky. You start up and look about yourself. Everything's gone. Every little thing of value-even the little worthless broken bottles you forgot to toss away. It's gone. |
