 Yoshihisa's breath comes out in puffs, keeping to the shadows of the sleeping inhabitant's den. Long gone were the carefree days where she and her brother were taken under their mother's wing, taught the skills of observation and sleuth; Yoshihisa had never known her father.

"There will come a day when I will be gone," her mother had said, long whiskers tickling Yoshihisa's flank. "And when that day comes, you will be ready to look after yourself. You can never rely on anyone but yourself. Do you understand me, dragonet?"

"Yes, mama."

That day arrived all too soon.
