Biography

Oath
Warrior

You go to meet Oath in his chamber. The quarters built especially for the Imperials that live or visit with the clan are so large they have to be set apart for the main lair. Oath comes out to greet you. He is not the most handsome dragon you've ever seen. His face seems to have this impassive expression and it is hard for you to gauge his mood. Yet he seems familiar to you, like somebody you have met long time ago or, perhaps, in a dream.

'You wish to know about me?' he speaks when you divulge the reason for your visit. 'I am flattered but there isn't that much to tell.'
He sits down, carefully placing his body on the ground. He gestures to a pile of cushions in the corner, inviting you to sit down.

'Where I should begin?' he muses. 'I am quite unremarkable I assure you. As many dragons of this clan I have chosen a life of a mercenary. Joining a strong group that would help me survive the perils of my profession was just a common sense to me. My days are filled with training, participating in missions, fulfilling contracts. I often have my talons full.'

'My free time?' he says and he pauses to think. 'I suppose I enjoy a bit of fishing. It is not easy to find an underground river or a lake that would be accessible to me, but those that are I am quite fond of. And the fish of course. Very tasty.'

He follows your gaze that wanders to the chain and pendant on his neck. His expression changes a bit, becomes more soft and melancholic.
'Oh, this' he says. 'I suppose that is the only unique thing about me. You see, I was born with it. Yes that's exactly what I mean. My mother says I emerged from my egg with this pendant already around my neck. Do you wish to examine it closer?'
You lean towards Oath and look at the pendant. There are some squiggles engraved on it's surface. You squint and stare hard but the squiggles make no sense to you. Is that writing of some kind?

'Nobody has been able to discern what it is exactly. Or where it come from. Or why it was around my neck. It's definitely not magically active. But it was there when I was hatched so I kept it all my life. I guess you can say that I am holding a secret. Even though I don't know what the secret is.'

Oath offers you some tea and you keep chatting for a while more about his work and journeys. You sip tea and relax on the comfortable cushions and then leave thinking that Oath would be one of the most normal and unremarkable dragons that you have met. Except for the pendant that no one knows the meaning of. Perhaps no one ever will.

From ask a dragon thread:
Oath, do you have a theory about how the pendant appeared in the egg with you?

Oath seems to think about the answer for a second, then says: 'Yes I do have a theory. Even consulted a dragon with a gift of clairvoyance to see if there is any truth to it. But all I got in return were some incoherent ramblings about a promise of some kind, death, bravery and strength. Some random numbers too. Nothing a sane dragon could decipher. But if you really wish to know what I think, then let me tell you: I think that the pendant is... not of this world. It's something out of Sornieth. Otherwise, how it could be placed within something sealed as tight as an egg?'
