His father always said Minkus was born under a lucky star, but Max is already so overprone to hyperbole in his declarations of family love that it's hard to know whether to take it seriously or not. If Minkus was born under any special star, it would have to have been a wet one. Though he's never worked on a ship, he loves the ocean and spends plenty of time on the docks, befriending the sailors and longshoremen. Most of them are happy to have someone around to listen to their sea stories, and some of the friendliest will give him tips about ship cargo and schedules so he won't waste time with traders who have nothing he wants, and is always first in line to bargain with ones who carry exotic food. Minkus has a particular affinity for southern Icefield cuisine- he loves fatty coldwater fish and is fascinated by magically cultured fruits that grow even in three feet of snow. Salt Fork isn't exactly tropical, but even in the dead of winter frost is rare. His establishment in town runs as a kind of combination deli and imported foods store. You can come in for lunch and walk out with your standard roast rambra sandwich, extra mustard but hold the pickle, or maybe splurge on a jar of sweet-smelling jam or intricately packaged pastry from some faraway place with a mysterious name like Upsiore or Pensatonic. Minkus is happy to chat with customers about the origin of food- he's a true aficionado and tries to know as much about his wares as he can. Minkus doesn't have a charge yet, but he's still young and hasn't felt any impulse to go wandering. Which he's fine with; it can wait. |

Nathan has only passed through Salt Fork once or twice, but always manages to run into Minkus. The last time, he laughed and called it kismet before asking for a truly ridiculous sandwich- tomato and mire chestnut, with puckerberry jam and a pickled carrot on the side.
