Ascii

Ascii is an artificial entity built to resemble a dragon and designed to decrypt codes. They were built with a database of ciphers and encryption methods that they can run a string of symbols and/or text through in order to decrypt the contents. If the text does not match a known cipher or encryption method, Ascii will run a program to attempt to identify and decrypt it. They hold an intuitive understanding of many Sorniethan languages and dialects spoken by dragons and beastclans alike. Ascii can also dispel magically conjured illusions, making use of the artefact of Light magic that also acts as their power source.

Ascii is a shy, but nonetheless friendly dragon. They take some time to warm up to new dragons, but they are quite talkative with friends. They are loyal and trusting with those they know, but quiet and anxious with strangers, especially in crowds. When social interaction becomes overwhelming, they take comfort in busywork, such as tending to a garden or editing documents. They work best outdoors, seeing as their Light magic core is powered by the sun.

Ascii's creation was commissioned by a library based in Arcane. Somewhere during transport, however, the circuits that marked Ascii's body began to drip. Something crimson and faintly luminous spilled from the patterns. Ascii remained dormant throughout the process. When one of the escorts booted up Ascii in an attempt to run their debug program, the dragon screamed in agony. The circuits only bled faster.









Ascii was later found hiding among the Crystalspine Reaches, but not by the intended recipients. Instead, they were found by Yin, who slowly but surely managed to convince Ascii to at least rest a night at Clan Moonwake. Cascade welcomed Ascii with open arms, and to their relief, didn't question where Ascii had come from. Though it took some time for them to warm up to the idea of a clan, Ascii soon decided to join Moonwake. They mainly help with light but repetitive tasks, and have a soft spot for gardening.

Their favorite code is Morse Code. Sure, it's simple, but it's fun! Plus, you can hide audio scripts in places like the image file for a screensaver!

Some time passed between when Ascii joined Moonwake and when they joined up with FL/GHT. It was happenstance, really; While gathering solar energy one morning, Ascii detected an encrypted signal, decrypted it out of habit, and ended up listening to an exchange between FL/GHT agents. From there, Ascii flew to the meeting point mentioned in the exchange and, after a rather awkward explanation and much questioning, Ascii was formally introduced to FL/GHT's cause.

Ascii decided to help FL/GHT's Intelligence faction by assisting in encrypting their messages, making sure they are as difficult as possible to detect and decrypt, while helping them decrypt data from PROJECT.

Although Ascii has invited some of their friends from FL/GHT to visit Clan Moonwake, none of them can find their way there. Even the ones with revolutionary GPS tech get disoriented after hearing some strange singing or smelling some strange incense drifting on the wind.

Ascii has taken charge of decrypting the contents of LISP's directory. It has proven an exercise in patience moreso than decryption.


Though they were missing and presumed dead after the attack on FL/GHT's headquarters, Ascii awakened in the Hewn City some months after the attack with a new coat, a note from someone named Loci in their pocket, and no memory of the past few months. They are currently making their way back to Moonwake.
