Omen

"You're sure this is supposed to happen here?"

Forest curled her body around an old tree as Summer finished showing her the old relic they'd found, the one that had led them to this location.
"I'm sure," said Summer. "The runes are very old and difficult to make out, but it seems to say something will come from the sky..."

Forest looked up slowly, a feeling of dread slowly creeping over her.
"..... when?"

"I don't know," Summer whispered. "It doesn't say."

"Soon."

The two dragons nearly jumped out of their skins at the sound of a third voice. They looked around quickly, but there was nobody around.

"Down here!"
They glanced down. A small horned frog was sitting on the riverbank that they'd settled next to.

"A frog?" Forest uncoiled herself and flitted over to the riverbank. "You can speak?"

"I wasn't always a frog," said the tiny amphibian. "But that's not what's important right now. Your friend is right; something is going to happen here, an event that will change the world, and you are the dragon who will decide its fate."

"Wait, slow down," Forest said. "What do you mean? Me? And what kind of event?"

"This is the place where two worlds will meet," replied the frog. "Somewhere in the world, a ritual has been performed, one that has altered the space between dimensions, lining them up for collision."

"And I.... can change that?" asked Forest.

"No," said the frog. "What has been done cannot be undone. However, a seed of what you call the darkness has been planted, and that darkness will seek to find the place where worlds collide... you know this."

Forest looked away. She didn't need the frog to elaborate; her visions held some truth, after all.

"What do I do?" she asked nervously.

"You must find the Seers," said the frog. "They will be able to help you stop the darkness."

"You should stay with us," Summer said suddenly. "You seem to know a bit about this prophecy... we might need your knowledge."

"I would be happy to help," said the frog. "I wouldn't be here if that wasn't my intent."

Summer put out a hand, and the frog gently stepped into their palm. Summer lifted the frog to Forest's shoulder.

"What should we call you?"

"I have many names..." said the frog, "but you may call me Omen."


"Let's go talk to Ness," said Summer. "I think she should hear about this."

"I do too," agreed Forest. They turned and headed quickly for their small lair.
