Born to some of the lowest members of her homeclan in the Reedcleft Ascent, she was forced to just sit by and watch as the king of the clan had her father killed and forced her mother to be his latest bride, turning Shizuko into the reluctant heir to the clan's throne. Despite her new role, however, Shizuko remained unknown to most of her clanmates throughout her childhood; her abusive stepfather forcing her under lock and key in a secret hidden chamber underneath their home in fear and disgust of her for reasons she was oblivious to; but would soon discover as both fire and ice started to obey her commands; an ability she did her best to hide whenever she could.

Early into her adult life, her clan's lair was attacked by a mysterious wildclaw who wielded both fire and light magic alongside a massive white ridgeback. The pair assaulted the mostly peaceful clan without warning; instantly destroying several buildings before any counterattack could be initiated, but by then it was far too late.

By the time the pair found Shizuko crawling out from underneath some rubble that had broken the secret trapdoor, she was one of the last few clan members left alive. They bound her and forced her to watch as they finished off the rest of her clan before letting her free so she could defend herself, wanting to toy with the skydancer some more before killing her.

Despite being little more than a hatchling in comparison to the monstrous ridgeback, and being too weak to properly defend against the wildclaw's attacks, Shizuko was able to use her wits and agility to defeat the ridgeback; making sure that at least one of the attackers wouldn't be able to harm anyone else ever again. She was about to turn the entirety of her attention to the wildclaw when she noticed he had vanished, having likely fled at the sight of the ridgeback collapsing.

For almost a week; Shizuko wandered and rummaged through the ruins in vain to find any other survivors or supplies, and only coming up with barely enough supplies for a few months. She grabbed what she could and walked away from the rubble, putting on the mask she had made herself during her time with her birth parents that was styled and painted to resemble her mother. After some heartfelt moments and burying who she could; the skydancer set off to find a new place to call home.

Shizuko wandered through all eleven flight territories, expanding her knowledge and passing what she knew down to others while simultaneously protecting those she can, as peacefully as she can, all while still keeping her mask on at all times. However, despite her assistance and kind nature, very few clans were willing to take her into their lairs, and most that did kicked her out soon after she joined them for reasons unknown to her.

As she began losing hope while wandering the Abiding Boneyard, she ended up stumbling into a hole in the fleshy ground, falling on top of an armored bogsneak dragon. After many sincere apologies on both sides, the male dragon revealed himself to be named Ruga; a bogsneak who was building a clan from the ground up after losing his own way; with the hole the skydancer fell through being what was going to be the primary entrance into the subterranean tunnels he was building.

After further discussion, Ruga opted to take Shizuko into his lair out of remorse over hearing her stories, becoming her protector as she took on the role of the clan's main shaman; using the rituals and magic taught to her by both herself and her mother to serve whatever needs the clan had.

As time passed, she couldn't help but notice Ruga's personality slowly shift more and more with each passing day that they spent together, and with every story they shared. It didn't take her very long to figure out the reasoning behind these shifts, but she didn't dare say anything; fearing she might have actually been misreading things and seeing what wasn't truly there.

Needless to say, she was surprised, but content, to find out she was right when the bogsneak approached and asked her to lead the clan by his side. She admittedly hesitated with the idea for a good short while, feeling undeserving of the position as the clan's matriarch, but she couldn't deny her own feelings, so she accepted.

However, as seemed to be the case with everything else in her life; this too was not meant to last. An act that neither of them wish to speak of had created a romantic rift between the two of them that caused their relationship to end, and despite Shizuko's best efforts; it seems as though said rift will never be mended.
