ALTWIDUS

Old Germanic. Derived from elements ald "old" and witu "forest".

ABOUT

Deep in the wilds, close to the running brooks, streams, and rivers that swarm with fireflies, a species of dragons dwell. There, in the damp shadows, the Forest and River Dragons (FaR) learn how to channel the special powers of the water within. Running water is healing, rejuvenating, and cleansing. Since these dragons are born into it, they’re among the luckiest of all kinds.

They are known to store river water in their bellies, beginning with the water from the river they were born in. As they grow older, they may store more and more of it, from different locales. No one knows if it’s the water or the special dragon, but the water within them has magical healing and luck properties.

Having one of these dragons in your clan is said to foretell prosperity — for as long as the rivers course through the Viridian Labyrinth.

DEEP FOREST

Born in the deepest, most shadowy parts of the forest, these quiet meditative dragons are natural-born loners and wanderers. However, many clans prize them for their clairvoyant abilities. They are known as far-seers, and it is possible to scry the future in their bellies.

Attracting one of these solitary dragons isn’t easy, though — it requires many months of luck and offerings of water from deep, standing puddles.

PERSONAL

Altwidus was found wandering the outskirts of the territory, half in a vision and half in reality, his ramblings had attracted the attention of the long-range scout Alandutsite, who brought him to be checked over, thinking him concussed. Gabriella, her own vision burned out by the force of prophecy, recognized this for what it was, and he was brought fully into the clan to prevent his half-prophecy state from having him wander into danger.

Though still relatively solitary among the clan, he can occasionally carry on conversation and does so with the clan, though isn't really sure how he ended up in the clan. He tries to be kind when he can, and is grateful to have a home clan willing to care for him.
