They're not mated, yet, but they're kind of soulmates. They exist in a mirror world, where everything around them feels amorphous and insubstantial and the only real things are the two of them, scribbly crisp with their pops of colour, skulking through hallways and ballrooms and shadows, always just missing each other and always just on the cusp of catching up with the other.

They will slowly circle their way together, I'm sure, drawn like faulty magnets to the place where the other last was, until eventually they find each other for real and settle down in their shaded bliss, populating this alt universe with their children and keeping an eye out for other 'real' beings who only exist on this side of the mirror like them.
