Biography
The Cursed Child
In a Coatl’s nest in the swamps of Tangled Wood stood a single egg, abandoned. “It’s cursed” hissed dragons around it, keeping their distance as they disposed of it. It was a rotten egg. Dragons here feared that a rotten egg would curse the rest of the eggs in the hatchery, thus the nest and egg were abandoned deep into the murk, never to be seen again. The egg smelt of decay and fungi grew on its shell. It was ghastly in appearance. However, it was not cursed. No, it was simply a child of the Shadowbinder in a metaphorical sense. This little Coatl was attached to the Tangled Wood. She was a part of it. She could hear the whispers of the underbrush, see the soul of the brambles, feel the heart of the deep forest. Foul gunk streaming from her eyes instead of the usual eyeballs being proof enough. She’s blind, but she sees the unseen. She sees the spirits of the Tangled Wood.
Alone, the egg started hatching. It shook and slowly the shell fell apart, revealing her to the world. She cried out without a mother or anyone to wash her off or help her out. She rolled out, legs barely supporting her. Eyes peered from the woods, looking upon this weak, small dragon. Easy prey. However, they dared not to step forward or strike first as something much larger was approaching.
A grey Skydancer called out, breaking out of flight to settle next to the child.
The small Coatl simply backed away, frightened by this larger presence.
He hummed, looking around for any signs of another dragon. He sure didn’t want an angry mother on his tail—especially for a sick child. He laid down and offered a smile, trying to show that he wasn’t a threat though it wasn't seen. Of course, he didn’t want to stay for long as there were deliveries to be made, but he reasoned Ianira wouldn’t be too mad, so he waited. Patiently. Unfortunately, he recognized this place. It was where waste was discarded, but he still held hope that it was a mistake. Seeing the broken shell and her state, he sadly realized that it wasn’t after waiting for hours.
“Come little one, I’ll deliver this message, and my clan will get you all fixed up. I can carry you; we aren’t too far!”
