BRIERxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Booboo the fool
"Oh Gods, what have I done?" Was he going too far this time? Brier shook off the brief, uncharacteristic self doubt. It couldn't be possible, he had been practicing his water magics far too studiously for anything to go wrong now. Brier had spent years striving for recognition as a mage, whiling away nights poring over texts, drawing and redrawing strings of runes, attentively toiling over noxious brews of esoteric potions. Today he intended to work a particularly dangerous (and, if pulled off correctly, very impressive) spell. After weeks of careful consideration and planning, Brier was confident he would be fully in control of the spell. Even if something did go wrong, he had prepared a number components and counter-spell scrolls he felt would be sufficient in halting any errant behavior if things began to go awry. So, taking a deep breath, he began the ritual. All was going well until suddenly, it certainly wasn't. A seeping chill was flooding through his veins, tingling at first and then burning. His chest felt wrong - something wasn't working correctly, his body temperature had never been this low before. In a split second decision urged on by increasing levels of pain, Brier fought to break the spell off. To his surprise, the pain didn't stop. While at first it was non-localized, it now began to sharpen, burning cold intensifying to a stabbing freezing in his chest. His field of vision had begun to narrow and blur as he fought to breathe. He desperately cast a series of spells, mentally grasping for any healing, curse-lifting, wound-curing spell he could think of. Half the spells he hadn't even had a use for since he was a fledgling. He was fading in and out of consciousness now and he stumbled, struggling through the haze to cast one last -
---
He noticed the difference as soon as he awoke. His chest was... numb. His body temperature was warmer than it had before he had passed out, but it was nowhere close to where it should have been. His body felt stiff and his joints ached as he stood. His study was a wreck, smashed beakers and spilled materials were strewn across the floor from his panicked thrashing.A mirror sat atop his desk amongst rolls of parchment and stacks of paper. A spilled bottle of ink was slowly staining the desktop below. Brier rescued the mirror from the path of the ink and looked at himself. The reason for the stiffness and pain in his chest was immediately apparent. Brier feared this mistake may have had more dire consequences than he had anticipated.
