Biography

Captain of the Pestilight
he washed up on the shores of the Sunbeam Ruins-- the shores that don't border the Sea of a Thousand Currents. He said he was attempting a round-the-world sail, and (technically) succeeded. He had crashed his ship, the Festering Gale, only a few leagues off the coast of the Sunbeam Ruins, losing it and the rest of his crew to the riptides, sharp stones, and lightning from the thunderstorm that had caused them to hit the rocks in the first place.
After the crash, during his weeks-long floating due to a busted wing, a strange parasitic type of coral started growing in his scales. It's slowly growing over more and more of him, spreading and changing shape over his scales occasionally. That usually happens when he's swimming in saltwater, staying still when dried out. If he keeps swimming and sailing, eventually he will become a coral captain statue...
Oddly enough, the coral seems to grant his deepest wish-- it's near-impossible to tell, but two of his antenna are false, made from the coral!
He had set off from the Scarred Wasteland, originally on a crusade to spread the Plaguebringer's influence further around Sornieth, to undiscovered continents. Whatever he found, whatever knowledge he gained, Gardeni refuses to share even with the endlessly curious Light dragons he's found a sanctuary (and, possibly, home) with.
He still enjoys raiding other Clans with his new ship Pestilight and her crew of runaway exaltees, seafaring Beastclan, and other pirates, having tests of courage and plague-resistance for funsies. It seems he's more a Light dragon now, though.
Whenever he's at the Clan for more than a few days, he can be found writing, or mapping, or talking with Daedalai. He gives the Librarian books sometimes. They seem to be records of his travels...
...that seemed to be shared, in part, by many Fathom dragons. During the Unfathomable Odyssey, Gardeni has been found talking and comparing his log notes with a few similarly secretive Fathoms on dives. He's been helpful as extra hands and an extra ship to transport dive artifacts, but he's also been skimming just a little bit of treasure off of his loot hauls too. Never enough to jeopardize his new alliances and relationships with various Fathom dragons, though!

The faithful First Mate, Daggertail, has been with Gardeni since he was recovering in the next bed over in Shineleaf's healing hut.
Daggertail had been heavily injured during a battle within the local Serthis sect. She'd approached the Sanctuary as the last surviving member of the younger assimilated generation, already banished as weak and soft-hearted by the older sect. She had no more honor to lose in asking for help from the sworn enemies of her Serthis sect. Since then, she's been happy as a member of the draconic pirate crew, raiding and pillaging and all-around having a good time. |
Raven, the newly-minted second mate, joined the Pestilight's crew after Warrior's Way as a way to escape the angry crowds that she pickpocketed and stole from during the event. She can't help herself, their stuff was just! so shiny!!!
So now she's got access to as many shiny things as she likes and as much open sea air that she could ever want to fly in. As well as second mate ship running duties, Raven is a very good harpoon and sky-diving sort of fisher. |
