Cosmos

As a hatchling, Cosmos was always running off, down deeper into the lair into the coldest, darkest, dampest tunnels. There, he would scratch at the walls until his parents, Riftstalker and Ladon, would find him and drag him back up. He was constantly fascinated by gems and stones, spending hours pouring over them and creating a book filled with information on them, complete with colored drawings.

As he grew up, and he began to have more decisions over what he could do, he began spending more and more time in the bottom-most reaches of the lair, exploring with a dimly lit oil lantern.

He learned how to support tunnels so they wouldn't collapse under the immense pressure of the tons of rock above, and how to extract fragile gems without breaking them.

After having realized that he could learn no more without help from outsiders, he left for the Tangled Wood to learn from a clan of dragons who mined for a living. It was there that he was introduced to gloomwillow guides, popular companions for miners for their ability to light even the darkest tunnels with a light that would fizzle out only with death. He met one named Azurlite, and the two quickly became inseparable.

When he returned to his birth clan after a year with more knowledge and experience, he threw himself into his work, helping to support the clan by selling his finds.
