Nikoma does not remember what he was before. He had been summoned by someone foolish. Someone who had been thirsty to control what they could not, and he had been smarter. When he'd consumed the summoner whole, he'd taken his name and appearance and wreaked havoc among the providences until he came across a young Shrine Maiden, Asa, who saw through the oni's charming presence. She stripped his form of the dead summoner, and bound Nikoma to her with her own life force, which continually drains her but keeps the powerful oni from destroying the realm.
