Perhaps you think you know this ancient, wise healer. But she has more secrets than can ever be known. Few have heard of her talents and backstory. But her other secrets? Most will never see the light of day. And it is better for the world that way. What terrible things would happen if someone knew....

When WindChaser hatched, nearly all the dragons in the clan realized her potential. Everyone could see the magic swirling in the hatchling's eyes. As she grew up, everyone waited for her power to show. Every time she tried to do the tiniest bit of magic, the rest of the clan seemed to be watching her. Waiting. It felt strange to WindChaser.
While she enjoyed making pretty trinkets and practicing spells with her magic, WindChaser enjoyed competition. So she began to fly more. The rest of her clan told her to stop wasting her time and work on her obvious talent. Magic. WindChaser didn't listen though. She was always a rebel and this only fueled her motivation. She flew more and more, getting faster and faster. And then, she flew her first race. It was a massive success. Even her clan had to admit she was good. So WindChaser raced more.

But one day, she realized that her clan just might be right. It was a fierce race, no-one was more than an inch ahead of the other. The air was nearly drained from WindChaser's lungs as she flapped harder, faster, trying to inch ahead. And then it happened. The wind suddenly spiked up, WindChaser gasped, trying to adjust. Then the wind roared louder. Unnaturally. It shoved her down with unusual amounts of strength. Plummeting toward the ground, WindChaser tried to fly higher. She was far away from the racing lane now. Her wings didn't seem to work anymore. She panicked. Nothing could save her now as she plummeted toward the ground.

When WindChaser awoke, all she felt was pain. She didn't dare open her eyes, too much fear and pain held her back. She tried to lift her arm. Nothing happened. Except pain. So much pain happened. Then WindChaser heard a female voice. The voice said that she was the healer. WindChaser relaxed then and drifted off to her pain filled sleep.

When WindChaser managed to sit up several weeks later, she was surprised and fascinated at the healer's den. She inspected the herbs, carefully studying the different patterns on the leaves and flowers. Then the bad news came. Her wing was twisted and broken beyond repair. WindChaser was disappointed and didn't know where to turn in her life. She knew her clan wanted her to return and be their mage, but she wasn't sure that's what she wanted in her life. Yet everyday, she felt more and more drawn to the life of a healer. WindChaser wanted to help the world and she wanted to live happily. But she also wanted to hide from her magic and the future they wanted for her.
