Anubis is the Neter* of the Dwat, embalming and of the mummification. Represented with a canidae head, this symbol refers to how jackals search for corpses and how they are very protective. This is connected to afterlife, death and rebirth in some way because black is associated to regeneration and heal as well. Anubis protects the pyramids, the mummies, the corpses, tombs and the dead on Dwat.

His main role is to be the weigher in the Weighing of the Heart, when the people die they have to pass in the test of the 21 gates**. If they succeed, they will go to the weighing of the heart where the Ka(heart) must weigh less than the feather of Ma'at which represents justice and truth. Everything what you do in life can count in this weight and if you are not worthy to enter in the Aaru Ammit will eat you Ka destroying your existence forever.

Anubis guide the Ka as a protector and a Neter that provide hope, he is not evil or keeper of a bad ''magic'' as the sensacionalists egyptomaniacs tell. He holds the cross of life, the Ankh, as almost every Neter does.





Neter IS NOT the same as God, this confusions is due the older translations that are wrong about how egyptians saw their deities. Egyptians were henotheists, not polytheists!
In some walls this is described as just 15 gates too, but it doesn't affect the final result.
You didn't know: Anubis is just the ancient greek version of Anpu, his original name.
