Yako

Chapter 1: Flight in the Light

flapped his wings furiously as the freezing wind battered at his face. The foam colored feathers of his wings strained under his weight as he tried desperately to fly. The clouds made it hard to see and the wind rusing past his ears made his deaf to the instructions his mother was yelling to him. “So this is how it ends...” Yako thought as his wings gave in and folded back. He plummeted toward the ground. Yako fought to unfold his wings, but the momentum was holding them down. Suddenly, with a violent jerk he was caught out of midair.
“Never let your wings get pushed back by the wind! That forces them to stay there you niny! If you are tired, then glide!” yelled Stretto.
“Easy for you to say your wings are full grown dad! Mine are still the size of hatchling and when I should be able to fly with grace I am like a field mouse in the sky!” answered Yako, wincing at his father’s tight grip. Stretto landed down with a thud and let go of Yako.
“Well this is why you need to work harder and have these extra practice sessions!” Stretto retorted. “Come on, let's get back to the cave before Yodh decides to make that soup of hers as a punishment.”

The night air smelled like the rain and feltr crisp against Yako’s scales as he wriggled out the window of the beautifully carved marble home. “Well they said I needed to practice…” he thought to himself. Yako slid down the railing, accidentally bumping his wind on the wall. He muffled a yowl and walked the rest of the way down. A feather fell down from his wing as he walked out the gate and toward the Beacon of the Radiant Eye.

The height had always scared Yako, but strangely tonight he felt excited. He was going to fly no matter how small his wings were.

Has one unnamed child. It's his lost one he never saw because when the eggs hatched he already traveled to the next Flight (what's why he doesn't know the name). Regrets this decision.
