Born to a fae and a spiral in the Sunbeam Ruins, Belrain never really was ordinary. Her parents were often a source of embarrassment and ridicule, and as such Belrain was never particularly close with either of them. But the thing to trigger her long-lasting hatred for her parents was their close-minded beliefs. Her parents were quite arrogant when it comes to global and cultural matters, and as such it infuriated her whenever they made an insensitive, stereotypical comment about something they were clueless about. They strongly believed any and everyone from the Tangled Woods was a demonized killer or anyone from the Scarred Wasteland was a violent extremist. The final straw was when she fell in love with Durian, a handsome, insightful spiral from the Scarred Wasteland. The ambitious young dragon had ventured all the way to the Sunbeam Ruins to research more about the Sundial Terrace, and hopefully, uncover more about its history. On the summer solstice, they met by chance at the terrace, and, although both of them were quite intelligent, they were also nieve and foolish, and did the most foolish thing they could and fall in love. They secretly met every night, and when Belrain discovered that she was carrying his children, she was elated. This, she decided, was the time to tell her parents about her affairs, and so she did just that. Their reaction was far from pleasant as they accused her of being a murderess trader who had become a devil worshipper. They screamed that they would disown her if she didn't kill Durian, and as such, she fled with him. On their journey back to Durian's homeland, the young couple stopped in the Wispwillow Grove, where they meet Icanum. The Imperial spoke of a pure, perfect world, free of discrimination. The young, impressionable dragons ate up his lies and agreed to help him in in quest to purify the world, a became the first members of the Bender's Cult. Unbeknown to them, Icanum's idea of a perfect world was far from perfect, and they slowly began to become more and more corrupt with every lie they told or dark deed they performed. Icanum and the Shadowbender slowly ate away at their mind and souls, until they both were as dark as they were. The spirals simply stood no chance of escaping the hole they had dug themselves into.
