Parallax was born with solid black scales all across his body, the only mote of color being his eyes that glowed like burning coals. Some envied his sleek appearance, but he despised it. In a world full of so much glorious color, why should he be resigned to carrying the shadows?

As Parallax found his way to the Moonchasers, he met Guzmania, a Nocturne with a blinding cacophony of colors that danced across her scales. Immediately filled with envy, he begged her to help him become beautiful. She offered to help him, but for a price: a hefty sum of treasure.
"Don't you want, like, my soul or something?"
"Listen, kid: I'd LOVE your soul, but do you know how difficult soul extraction is? Just hand over the cash."
"Oh, okay."

Guzmania gave him a set of paintbrushes and magical inkwells. Whatever he painted on himself would be permanently set in its bright, blinding, resplendent glory. Pleased with his new appearance, Parallax considered traveling elsewhere when he had a most unexpected encounter: meeting a Gaoler for the first time.

Dynamo, who came from the "Seeker Order" (whatever that meant), was enraptured with his appearance. 'I'm starting a collection', they said, 'of beautiful dragons. We'll travel Sorneith to amaze its citizens and teach them that the strange are not to be feared, but loved! No one is truly different; it's all a grand illusion.'

Parallax fell in love with the idea immediately, and alongside his ringleader, became the first member of The Grand Illusion. 		Familiar: Brilliant Psywurm
