Biography

Riptide

Singer

River was born on a stormy day in the light domain. He was born the runt, tiny and frail. His skin was almost translucent and his fins lacked webbing between each frill. Needless to say, he was a weak freak. His parents were not sure what to do with the babe, who clung to life. They thought maybe ending his misery would be a kindness, but he clung to life. His parents chose, after much talk, to try to raise him. River needed his food mashed up, mixed with water, and heated in the sun. He had to be constantly given water as well, and he had to have help to keep his muscles from deteriorating. River didn't really care what happened to him after a week of living like this. He slowly lost the will to live, finding it harder and harder to see and never experience. He snuck out, somehow, in the middle of the night. He stood at the bank of a river, something his parents named him after, and fell in. He planned to enter it, but he lost his balance. The currents were strong, and his wings were weak. He was tossed around haphazardly in the wild water. He struggled to try to get out, suddenly wanting to live. The water didn't care though, River losing consciousness. As his yellow eyes locked on a pearl, he found himself going limp.

When he came to, he was on a beach. His body was hurt, badly, by the rocks waiting for him at the bottom of that river. He found himself unable to even get up, laying there for a while. When he finally moved, it was because he smelled food. In some clans, it wasn't unheard of for dragons like tundras to eat meat or mirrors plants, and now River found himself craving seafood. He saw a clam, it using its tongue and trying to burry again from a wave. For the first time ever, his arm moves quickly. He snatched up the clam and began trying to open it. It was hard, and the animal even bit his weak fingers each time he got close. But River's will to live outweighed the clam, and he won. The meat was chewy and soft. It was just how he used to eat, but he was able to chew it. He found his teeth sharper than normal, easily able to tear into the clam. He stumbled up, looking around. He coughed a little, turning his head to the sea. He found himself going to it, frills flaring. River found his limbs changing as he entered the water, fins allowing him to go much faster.

At first, it startled him. River hopped out of the water, fins returning back into limbs. He wasn't sure what was happening, but he knew one thing. He was still hungry. He stood up, legs shaky, and made his way to where he smelled food. He almost reached a clan when he realized his skin felt dry. He turned his head to see a river. River grunted, grumpily going in it. His legs once again vanished, turning into fins. It still felt odd but wasn't as shocking. As soon as he got comfortable, he spotted movement in the water. A school of fish swam by, River licking his lips. He looked away though, determined to get something from the clan he knew was close. His body told him to move, to swim after the fish. River growled at his body but felt his stomach rumble louder. He bit down on a passing fish, scaring the ones close by. He chewed it down, spitting out the bones. He blinked, it was tasty but his stomach not full. River ate a few more and crawled out of the river.

He made his way to the clan but was greeted with odd looks. He didn't realize, but he had grown in size. He was about the size of a tundra, which was no small feat. Soon he came face to face with its leader. The dragon was a mirror, who clearly had no trust for him. River was told to leave, that they wanted nothing to do with a cursed dragon. River blinked, not recalling himself being cursed. As he tried to explain a dragon bit his tail, and River clawed him. River had never fought before, much less attacked someone. He was just as startled as this clan was. He fled, being chased by the dragon he scratched. River panted, his scales feeling dry once again. He crawled to a stream, flopping in it. As he lay in the water to sleep, he drifted off. He ended up in shadow territory, and in the way of the tea maker. She was a kind dragon, not easily startled. But the sight of a webbed, scaley, large fae would startle any dragon. She dropped her teapot on his head, waking River painfully.

Mintra apologized profusely to River, who was only startled. She explained that she had a late wake-up and was rushing to get her stand ready. River blinked, offering to help her out. Mint nearly crushed him with her hug, and the two set off to gather ingredients. Soon the stand was set up in Gencentric, but not many came by to get a drink. River, for some reason, started to hum something. It was lovely, lulling even. Soon he began to sing, a melody of a siren. Mint grinned, feeling calmed by the song. Passerbyers seemed to have this feeling from his music as well. Soon the tea sold quickly. River grinned, dumping one of the buckets of water Mint gave him on himself. By the time night came, Mint had given out all of the tea she had made, even the spare. She thanked river just as much as she had apologized to him. River dismissed it, but Mint insisted it was thanks to him. The two became close, River soon joining the clan. They have the best tea and music any venue could every offer, and River is the luckiest and happiest fae ever, he claims anyway.
