Phantasos

Another day another sucker. Juggling his pearl between his wings, Phantasos couldn’t help but chuckle to himself at the naivety of his fellow dragons. Now he shouldn’t be so hard on them. He was after all an extremely clever chap if he did say so himself. It was just too easy to get others to watch one hand while the other slipped a couple of treasure pieces out of their satchels.

He was heading down the road after a short trip to his home lair in the Nature Territory. It had been great to catch up with his best friend Birch even if Cedar had been reprimanding him the whole time about his neglected duties as a Nature Guardian. Whatever. He had plans of his own and couldn’t be bothered to hang around and grow flowers, or count bunnies, or whatever it was they were doing these days. He was wasted on such fancies and there was treasures and trinkets to be had…..or stolen as the case often was. With card tricks and some simple mind games, Phantasos could con the pants off anyone.

He was heading south to The Ashfall Waste where some lovely new metal work items had been recently developed. Phantasos figured he could make a killing reselling whatever he picked up down there for the low low price of free. It wasn’t that he didn’t have the money to pay for the things he wanted, he just like the price of zero better.

Tucking his pearl, the essence of himself and his “crystal ball” to those dumb enough to believe him, into his satchel he proceeded towards a village he had passed through a few years ago. A hearty meal seemed just the ticket after traveling for hours both in the sky and on land. The day was nearing it’s end and he didn’t want to be on the road after dark. Clever and handsome, yes. Good with hand to hand combat and taking out dragons ready to ambush him, not so much. However, what awaited him at the crest of the hill was not a village ready to house him for the night, but a ruined husk of an existence. Great.
