The old, feeble dragon made his way one last time into the forest. He softly caressed every tree, bush, and flower that he passed, saying goodbye in his own way. Murmured greetings and farewells were said to any of the creatures he had befriended in his many, many years in this forest. When he finally reached his favorite clearing, he settled down in the sun and looked around.

The huge tree in the center of the clearing was much, much older than he was... and still so strong and full of life. He envied the fact that it would stand in this beautiful place long after he would pass to his deity. Blinking at the thought, he looked at the tree again. Perhaps he could use the last of his energy and magic to weld a bit of his self or spirit to the tree. They could experience the decades together in quiet contemplation. He wouldn't have to leave this place he loved so much.

Gathering every scrap of everything had left, Bayou sat at the base of the tree, leaned against its strong trunk, and let all of the power, life, and love flow through his claws down into the roots in the ground. The darkness claimed him.

... and spat him back out again.

When Bayou came to, he figured he was dead and looked around for the Gladekeeper to report for duty. But everything looked the same, save the fact that he could see so many different facets to his clearing than he ever had before. It was as if there were layers to his vision that kept flipping over one another. Confused, he tried to move.

As soon as movement began, the rustling started. Slightly startled, Bayou looked at himself. Long moments went by before the dragon could puzzle out what was going on. His body appeared to be made out of the wood of his favorite tree. His wings grew green like the leaves, and flowers and vines twined around him like pets, moving and making the rustling, musical noise. Utterly boggled, the dragon looked back at the tree.

The tree looked back. One of the facets of vision swam over the view and Bayou could see a glowing spirit in the trunk. It shyly waved its tail and smiled. Images fluttered through the dragon's mind: years of himself talking to the tree and the animals; the way he'd cut away some clinging vines from its trunk; the way he protected this place from those who would despoil the wood. Acts of love over the years that were repaid in an instant by changing the dragon into a creature of nature.

Unable to go back to his original lair (they presumed he'd gone off to die since he'd bid his farewells), Bayou set out to find a new place. As all who are different and lost do, he found his way to Chaotic Daydreams. Here with the other oddities, he is being tutored by the spirits and is making friends with the local denizens of the woods in the territory as well as the other lunatics in the lair.
