Rufus suits himself with the life of a warrior unlike most other Pearlcatchers and enjoys battling opponents in the Coliseum as well as doing sparring practices with fellow warriors. While he is generally joyful, he still has a degree of strength tucked within him and won't hesitate to use it when he or someone close to him is in danger. His violent tendencies in battle come from embodying the blood of a plague dragon which shows when he joins battles against the wildlife of Sornieth and the Beastclans.

This profession does come with some inconvenience; Rufus always brings his pearl along and as a result it often receives bits of damage when he is charging claws and teeth against enemies. His bravery is impressive to other dragons with combat experiences for a species that usually do not dare to confront directly, while other Pearlcatchers with more passive lifestyles would be haughty about it. He doesn't really care about tiny chunks missing from his pearl, as long as he can keep himself going on the battlefield, he is more than eager to participate in fights.
