★★★ He was born Shezmu the Red Prince, named after a god, the crown prince of a prosperous kingdom. One day, the innocent and ignorant prince received a gift of an enchanted tome. He soon found out that at his command, he could make the book morph its words into texts about dark magic. What was initially curiosity turned into greed and corruption, as Shezmu began using this magic for sinister ends. When his parents found out, he was painfully banished from the kingdom and his name erased from all records. However, he had amassed a group of followers - almost a cult - and moved elsewhere to continue living. During this time, as the Sanguine Emperor, he committed countless grave crimes which he was eventually convicted for. Perhaps as a final act of kindness, he helped his followers escape and eventually escaped himself.

★★★ Years later, Shezmu forged a new identity as Lord Apophis, rich homeowner of an island off the coast of the Sunbeam Ruins. He put on a front of pleasantries and dignity, which wasn't too difficult given his upbringing. While participating in bona fide deals and trades with other dragons and mainlanders, he also practiced his dark arts where no other dragon could see. Several rooms in his castle hold evidence of this, including rooms with tomes of dark magic and a strange gallery filled with portraits of seemingly unrelated individuals.
