Biography
NIGEL NEWPORT Honorary Member of Earth Flight's Guild of Explorers Captain of the Land Turtle Schooner To see the world, things dangerous to come to, to see behind walls, draw closer, to find each other and to feel. That is the purpose of life. |

◇ ◇ ◇ ◇ ◇ ◇ |
Aboard a ship called the Land Turtle Schooner lives a fellow named Nigel Newport, and he is in no rush to return to his roots. This is in part due to his Snapper nature. Very few dragons of his species feel inclined to hurry along, no matter the occasion. But Nigel meanders along because anything at all is far better than his stuffy upbringing and the expectations that still await him there.
The Newport family made sure Nigel was prepared for the world, in all the ways they thought mattered. He received the finest education the Newport fortune could buy, along with frequent, albeit informal instruction about how his money was best spent once he came of age. The former lessons he adored, overflowing as they were with the promise of a wonderful, wide world, and the latter lessons he despised, as they always returned to hoarding wealth rather than putting it to good use. It is no surprise, then, that he took his inheritance and set sail the moment he had the power to do so. There are probably members of his family who still resent him for it, but what matters more is his mission in life: to see the world, and help others to see it, too. This is where he would stop to joke about running a cruise service, if he were recalling his youth to an audience. He would, after all, make a fine tour guide. All that education so long ago led to a wealth of information accumulated, and what better way to share it than to ferry dragons around on their vacations? As it turns out, the better way is to explore, and to place his discoveries in the hands of dragons who will ensure their safety and preservation. |

It is common knowledge that Snapper Dragons have no need for sleep and as such rarely stay still unless they are molting. What is not common knowledge is that this is exactly what Snapper Dragons want them to believe. There are those rare Snapper Dragons whose spiritual connection to the Earthshaker is so strong that when they reach their first molting as adults they find their spirits drawn to the Earthshaker, their bodies left behind become petrified and are soon covered from sight by dust, sand and soil. Most of these dragons are still hidden under Dragonhome to this day, but every so often Earthshaker wakes some of these special children. He sends an Earth Sprite to summon a clan to the resting place of the dragon. Upon their arrival, the petrified body long buried under sediment explodes and a Geode Dragon emerges, as a caterpillar from its cocoon. Link to Encyclopedia Terraria: Earth Flight Subspecies Hub |

There's no locale too distant or dangerous for Nigel. He's trekked through harsh deserts and sailed through the Tidelord's stormiest seas in search of lost treasures. And rather than claiming these treasures for himself, or selling them to the highest bidder, he has routinely partnered with historical institutions across Sornieth, reconnecting them to cultures and clans they'd thought lost. And since starting out on this never-ending mission, what wealth he brought with him has since been spent on preservation efforts, funding excavation and education programs without a second thought. These days, he relies largely on charity or honest hard work to obtain provisions for his expeditions, though more than one university has begged him to accept a grant from their archaeological departments. (He always tells them to save that money for prospective students, ones who may not otherwise have the resources to attend. Knowledge should, he believes, be accessible to all.) Someday, he knows his adventures will have to come to an end, for whatever reason. But until then, he aims to continue bringing Sornieth's secrets to light, so that all can learn from the history at hand, and turn their bright minds to the future. No matter how much his family disagrees, he thinks that is a fine cause to lend a fortune to indeed. Bio by Tues. | . |
