Biography

The Unsung Infection

lightv2.png
"My children... I love you so much... stay safe now... Mommy will be back, promise...."
-Vestimia

The snow laid thickly on the ground with more pouring from the sky above. It was so bad that a dragon could barely see five feet in front of their snout. Within this cold storm a tiny figure was stumbling through the hailing snow. A tiny voice was being drowned out by the wailing wind. They cried and cried, a tiny pup of a hatchling. Their fur being whipped around by the gale. The tiny thing barely able to stand against the lashing winds. The little one didn’t take long to collapse. Their body shivering with their eyes straining against the hail storm.

Then came the humming. A soft melody was reaching the little one’s frozen ears. Even though the sounds were soft they were clearly heard, which should’ve been impossible. Then a silhouette appeared from beyond the wall of falling snow. The figure was giant, having an odd form. Too many horns, too many back spines. The child didn’t have the strength to really worry about such things though. The humming was louder now, an angelic voice as soft and sweet as a mother singing a lullaby to her hatchlings. Wishing for safety, to be rescued, the hatchling cried out to the giant. Who stopped for a moment before turning to the child.

A giant figure already, as they came closer they only grew in size. Their wings unfurled to catch the wind. An expansive shadow of a dragon. From what the hatchling could see they were a Ridgeback, or at least looked kinda like one. As the other got closer though, the ground shook under the weight of their steps, the sound of strange chimes came from the wind. The sound of humming growing loader, closer, the sight of glowing nails and a distinct sound of clinking chains came to the child. They were nervous now, as weak as they were. However, soon that nervousness turned to fear.

Electric blue eyes stared down at the hatchling through a horrifying skull. Horns protruded from the figure that was covered in ice, shackles and chains. The butts of spears came out of their chest, bird skulls hanging off those spears. Their claws glowing a similar electric blue, their wings, arms and legs all frozen over by ice and snow. A hideous sense of dread came from the child at that moment. The humming had stopped, the illusion of help disappeared. The child tried to flee only to have such work bare no fruit. Easily caught the child screamed for help, for the other to stop and go away. Those claws were swathed in poison which burned the poor child and their fur. The skull came close and the last thing the child saw were those terrifying eyes void of any empathy or even real, living, life.

All that was left by the end was a tiny skull and some ribs with small patches of blood in the snow here and there. For a moment the monster clutched at the skull and ribs, as if it were mourning the death or perhaps trying to hush a crying hatchling and trying to protect the remains. However, in due time that passed and the monster was almost blank and still. Then the skull and ribs were strung up within the other bones that chimed in the wind. The monster simply continued on. Humming in a voice that was owned by someone long gone. Their chains clinking, chimes singing and the bit of cloth they had flapped in the ever so violently cold wind. As they left, one could see spearheads rising from their back, dried blood rusting the weapons. There were too many horns and too many spines...

An undead with no aim, only murmuring stolen memories of a mother and humming her child’s favorite lullaby. With only the faint sound of humming receding into the snow-covered air as they retreated from the spot, their silhouette disappeared into the storm. Their icy hide unhindered by the chill. The monster with an unsung infection disappeared once more.
