Depending on who you ask, she is a figure from your worst nightmares, or alternately, a hermit who just wants to be left alone. “Sorry, I can’t help you any more. I don't have the medicine to ease your symptoms, let alone the knowledge. Best to just suffer until the sickness passes. Unless you want to go to the witch?” he laughs until tears come to his eyes and flow down his scales. “Please, can't you do anything?” “Sorry, the closest city with the proper medicine is all the way across Sornieth. Like I said, it's best just to suffer until your pain subsides.” “Where can this witch be found?” He looks stricken. “Well, now, I didn't mean it seriously! Haven't you ever learnt what a joke is? Biljana’d just as soon chop you up and use you as an ingredient in her vile potions than help you.” “Where can the witch be found?” “It's your funeral, I guess. She lives in a shack by the seaside.” “Right on the edge of the cliff?” “Right on the edge. She grows herbs in a little patch of dirt she has out back.” Your stomach does flip flops as you approach the salt rotted cabin. You raise the simple brass knocker and let it fall. Though the ocean surrounds you with a cacophony of noise, it seems as if all falls silent for a moment. A Snapper opens the door. Her face is kind, and her smile motherly. A strange wind swirls around her, suspending herbs in midair, like some sort of personal tornado. Surely this can't be the witch? She leads you inside, to a chamber lit by lanterns hanging from the ceiling. Their light ebbs and flows at regular intervals so that you find your eyes never feel tired. It is roomier than it appears from the outside, and cushioned chairs are scattered around the room. A gentle wave of heat washes over you, and you struggle to stifle a yawn. The aroma of steeping herbs wafts from a door left ajar. “Sit here. I'll get you some tea in a bit,” she murmurs, motioning towards a seat as she bustles off to attend to someone else. Biljana returns a few moments later and hands you an earthenware mug full of a steaming amber liquid. You wrap your claws around it and take small sips, grateful for the warmth that suddenly courses through your body, leaving you feeling rejuvenated and full of energy. Your initial unease is long gone. And as you watch Biljana caring for others, giving freely whether they are old or young, scarred or unblemished, dragon or Beastclan, you realize this: the witch of Hulmoor is as much a witch as you are a piping hot cup of tea. | ___ |
