HISTORY Contrary to popular belief, the gaoler actually don't mind killing hatchlings. But only when it's for a good reason. After crushing down a rebellion, there was a discussion about what to do with the handful of hatchings that were in the camp. The eggs could be given to a clan, but the hatchlings were witnesses. Eventually a plan was agreed on; the "good" children would be adopted into the sect of ancient dragons while the "bad" ones would be frozen. Magic had come a long way since the genocide of the banescales, you could now freeze dragons without killing them. Even if Tobias wasn't the son of the leader, he was still a terribly behaved hatching. He watched his mother's head be cut off her body and land in the snow, and then was expected to obey her killers. A fae hatching is tiny, and can't do much damage. There's no sharp teeth, no lifetime of magic study. But there is equally tiny sharp claws. All Tobias needed was one lucky shot so the gaoler who killed his mother lost an eye. Clearly this was the worst child of the whole lot. Into the ice he went. The ice froze his body, preventing him from aging. His eyes were squeezed shut so he couldn't see. No sound could get through the ice to his ears. But Tobias was awake. Perfectly aware of the months he spent suspended in it. He forgot what it meant to be cold, what warmth felt like. Then the ice cracked and melted away. He landed in someone's arms, too weak to move. Suddenly surrounded by noises, lights, and colors after so long of nothing. It was too much, so overwhelming that he thought he was that his mother was there. She was there though. She had come to take him home. The trauma of her death, living with the gaoler's, and then being trapped in ice had done a number on his mind. Thankfully, the magic of the ice didn't mess up his aging and in time he grew to an adult. His mother was there to help him in every single possible way. But some wounds cannot be healed. Like his mother, he has a green ribbon of his own. Unlike his mother, his exists in his mind.
