Insanity leads to chaos, Then to solitude. The fruitless effort of adding meaning to what is meaningless. A lone, crimson tear falls to the sea... The echo of the remaining star cries out in the infinite vacuum. The least I can do is send my distant prayers over the wind of time, setting sail on dreams... “Plains of lightning, plains of thunder, those who cross are torn asunder.” There is a place in Sornieth that is home to a bizarre, raging storm that never ceases. It is a vast, throbbing beast of a storm that thrums with continual light-ning and bellows forth with thunder; an object of singular, electrifying intensity that seems more like an angry living thing than a mere weather phenomenon. In this place, for sometimes up to nearly 300 days a year, the lightning sizzles across the sky and licks at the earth below in a dazzling display of nature at its rawest and most furious. Here, in one, tiny, sandy corner of Sornieth the storm beast makes its lair, and produces the most breathtaking spectacle of a natural light show on Sornieth. This mesmerizing atmospheric phenomenon is known as sonantis tonitrui magni, or Great Thunderstorm, and it only occurs in one very defined area of Sornieth, the Thunderstruck plains. Here, the lightning never stops, and it is startling in its in-tensity. For between 200 and 300 days a year, the storm produces an average of 28 strikes of lightning per minute for up to 10 hours at a time, sometimes un-leashing up to 3,600 bolts of lightning per hour, or roughly one per second dur-ing particularly explosive displays, culminating in upwards of 40,000 lightning strikes a night. This immense amount of lightning is the single largest natural source of ozone in the world and is unique on this planet. This lightning is not only produced in excessively large amounts, but is also re-markably powerful, with each bolt ranging from between 100,000 to 400,000 amps, far beyond the normal. This frighteningly potent lightning is so incredibly bright and constant that it is visible from up to 250 miles away, as a haunting, an-gry, flickering glow upon the horizon. This long distance visibility has led to the commonly held myth that the lightning is silent, since it can be seen from much farther away than its thunder can be heard. However, it does produce thunder, as all lightning does, in a discordance of unregulated, undiluted, raw noise. Nowhere else on Sornieth does lightning strike in such concentrations and with such relent-less ferocity. The storm is also remarkably predictable, occurring in the exact same place every time, and starting practically on cue at around the same time, every time, just about an hour after dusk. |

Only one recorded moment of calm has ever been witnessed. This was when a young skydancer was born after being stolen from his nest. That skydancer is known as Iudicium, the Judgment. Iudicium was abandoned as an egg when his mother had to make a choice while traveling through the plains in order to escape threat from beastclan members. While on the run his mother had stumbled losing her grasp on the egg in her hands sending it rolling across the sand only to be struck by multiple bolts of lightning. Figuring that the baby inside had been fried by the lightening the mother did the only thing she could, she kept moving for-ward leaving the discarded egg behind. A nomad of the land, a skydancer who knew the plains and called the dangerous terrain home, found the egg and took it home. The nomads daughter, Vividarium felt something within the scorched egg, life that was still trying to strive though its home severely damaged. She took the egg and kept it safe until the day it hatched. Iudicium did hatch from his egg but the strike from the lightning had never van-ished, the obsidian skydancer was born with a unique gift, eclectic currents coursed through the skydancers body giving off a neon blue glow in crackled de-signs all over his body. |
