Biography

Grisel and her brother were both found in a little basket on the doorstep of Valygar’s cavern one night. When the Mirror found them, she also found a little note attached to the basket in which they slumbered in. It read,

Hello again, Valygar. I hope all is well. If you are wondering where I am now, then I may tell you that I am in Ward I’m now living within a secret organisation in the Scarred Wastelands. These two hatchlings are my two new children. I wanted them to live with you, because at the place in which I am now living in, I noticed that the young ones can’t do lots of things that young ones back at the Unnamed Clan would do. Like playing outside, doing anything outside anywhere. I think I might just be overreacting, I haven’t been at Ward 0 living in the Scarred Wastelands for long. Anyway, I thought I might give these two hatchlings to you, so then they may learn the ways of the Arcanist and spend their Saturdays playing chess and whatever it was that you lot do again. Also, have you met a dragon called Palada? He used to live in the clan that I am in now, but I think he was banished for ‘spying’. He said that he would move to an Arcane clan and learn more about the cosmos, so I wondered if he stayed at yours for a while. Anyway, I must be off. The matriarch, Anthe, has to
Lots of love, Octavia

Happily remembering the times when the insipid Coatl used to live in the clan, Valygar took the hatchlings in.

Now a young adult, Grisel is sort of a rebel. She has been watching the tricks of her notorious uncle, Gortan, and how he deals with the temper of Marcus in the most mischievous and inconvenient ways possible. So, Grisel has begun a little devious scheme of annoying dragons. When a dragon is walking across the roof of the lair, Grisel will sneak up on them and tap their tail, causing them to turn around and or chase after the Mirror.
Despite her impressionable and childish behaviours, it turns out that Grisel is an excellent mechanic. She sometimes goes with Holly to fix broken things in the Shifting Expanse, a potential hobby that Holly has the pleasure in doing. And sometimes, Grisel helps out with cleaning out the lair with Valygar and Milion in Spring Cleaning Day.

But despite being a young adult, Grisel has not grown out of some of her childish habits. For example, she will still say “are we there yet?” on a long journey. Holly the Ridgeback experiences this when she takes Grisel with her to the Shifting Expanse to do some wire work. Another example is that although she is an adult, it seems as though she hadn’t grown into that terrible, terrible thing that teenagers go through - puberty. So she won’t fall in love with any dragons. But still being a dragon, she has the natural desire of mating, regardless of romance. Grisel is often called a ‘forever child’ and Elderberry says that she is like Peter Pan, who won’t grow up.

Although happy, ‘delightful’, sometimes useful but oh so naughty, Grisel also has an insatiable curiosity for why the white Spiral, Palada, is scared of her and her brother.
When Grisel or her brother Galaeron walk past Palada’s cavern, and Palada is inside, the white Spiral often slivers away from the direction of the two young Mirrors. And although they don’t know this, but Palada tells the Chieftain that he senses danger when the Mirrors come by.
One night Palada came to Valygar’s cavern to discuss this fear in a more detailed manner. But Valygar, curled up on her box of mysterious goods, frowned and told him, “They aren’t doing any harm to you, Palada, so just leave them alone.” But the Spiral gibbered fearfully, “I really, really don’t feel safe when they are around. And I have discovered a reason for this.” The Mirror’s tomato basic ears twitched curiously, and her four pink eyes blinked for a long time. “So why are you so scared of Grisel and Galaeron?” The Spiral cringed as she mentioned the youngsters’ names.
Grisel and Galaeron. The names spun in the Spiral’s head.
“They were born in Ward 0!”
Valygar stared at the dragon confusingly, like a cat would to a vegetable. “So?” she asked carelessly, unaware of what was going to happen next. “So? So?! Ward 0 is a nightmare of a place! Beings are experimented on! Beings are killed! Dragons are kidnapped and tortured! I pretended to be a spy for a nonexistent Lighting clan so then I could be banished! I had heard about this clan long ago, so that’s why I came here. And I’m scared that those two could be sending out information about me back to the Scarred Wastelands.” Valygar put a large claw onto the Spiral’s shoulder comfortingly. “I don’t think that they would do such a thing. They don’t even know what Ward 0, let alone the Scarred Wastelands, is!” Palada sighed in relief. “Thank goodness. But please, do not tell them about it. And especially don’t tell Charlie; I don’t trust that swaggering waste of flesh one bit, and he’s liable enough to-“ Valygar’s familiar poked his flank with its spear. The Mirror now held both of Palada’s shoulders and told him, as she walked closer to the entry of the cavern, “I think what you have just told me about this place in the Scarred Wastelands is very important, so I will think about setting up a new rule in the Unnamed Clan tomorrow; and that is that nobody shall travel to the Scarred Wastelands when there are kidnappers around, not even those like Landru that were hatched in those lands. I was never really a fan of the Plaguebringer, I don’t think she has had a shower since Dragonkind was born.” Palada chuckled a bit, before realising that the Arcane matriarch was mocking the god who owned the lands that he was born in.

Now that the rule has been passed, no one, not even Elderberry, has been to the Scarred Wastelands.
But Landru remains curious.
