Biography

THIS DRAGON BELONGS TO SHLAMBINI
Ulthir has always know how to be helpful, and make himself needed. From when he hatched, his clan instituted a system so that every dragon, young or old, would have a place in the clan, and something to do. Starting with simple things, such as cleaning up eggshells or delivering parcels, he slowly moved up in the “responsibility ranks” along with his close-knit group of siblings. They were all born together, and they all worked together, having fun and growing a sense of loyalty to the clan. Eventually, they got to help pick section matriarchs, meet new additions to the clan, and assign jobs to other dragons. Life was hard, but that was what made it interesting. This system grew a sense of responsibility in him, and the ability to help other dragons, seeing what ailed them.
But no matter how perfect a clan could be, disaster would always come, be it from within the minds of dragons, or from the worlds of other dragons. When Ulthir had seen his tenth Jubilee, the floods come. They were rare in a land of dragons accustomed to searing heat, beating sun, and structures made from old marble pillar. And they had no plan, no system for that.
So they came, and flooded caves, took down tents, and drowned some. They were not water dragons, after all. Ulthir was swept away by a wave, away from the cluster of tents and caves he called home, and into a new land. One that was dark, one that was filled with glowing trickster bugs, and dragons. But he didn’t let the atmosphere get him down. He continued on, trying to let his mind recover, and trying to imagine that everyone was safe. They probably weren’t. He knew that. But he could hope, could he not?
So he made the forest his home, trying to treat the dragons he encountered as his clanmates. And he healed. He even found a mate, Arisa, another dragon of his kind, who was shaken from losing her own clan. He helped her calm down, and together they looked for a new home, for both of them. He thought of her as his clan, and together, they had a home.
But still, they looked. For the forest was dangerous, full of the beastclans, and they would only be truly safe within a clan of dragons. They wandered for at least three moon cycles, and they learned how to live within the forest. They also learned how to live without other dragons, and at one point, they doubted that they needed a clan to call home. But they missed the company of other dragons, the safety and comfort of a place where everyone did something small, and accomplished something big. So they kept looking.
And eventually, they found it, the clan they were looking for. And it fit like a glove. They welcomed the two brightly colored dragons, and Ulthir assuaged his mate’s fears. If this new clan was to trust them, they would have to trust the clan. That was how a family worked, was it not?
From then on, they worked as a duo within the clan’s layers. Ulthir helped keep Arisa in check, and on task, and she helped the clan. Perhaps Ulthir did not do much to physically take responsibility for the clan, but emotionally, many dragons came to him for help, and he helped many times to soothe new hatchlings. Even up to now, he acts as a counselor for many dragons, especially his mate. He knows hardship, but does not let it get him down. He has risen above that.
