Thirteen had never believed in "hard work." After all, of all the forms that his condition could take, he had the privilege to grow bona fide rubies from his naked hide. His "miracle blood" ensured that he was never hungry, thirsty, or in need of shelter, and he could admit that perhaps it turned him into a bit of a slacker. But hey, some people were just born lucky. They probably didn't understand how tedious it was to keep finding new places to live, just so nobody found out where the local merchants kept getting all of their rubies. He'd tried settling down, once, and had barely made it out of his luxurious den alive - the entire clan had wanted a share of his profits. No one would ever leave Thirteen alone if they knew about the secret to his success. That was why he kept a low profile now, to make sure his living space was as comfortable and peaceful as possible.
