Second Born of the Fourth Clutch

Alpheus stood solemn at the entrance to the cave. After a few silent moments surveying the scene, he slowly crossed the distance between him and the dragon at the other end. Standing high in front of her prone body, he bent his head low to gaze at the group of hatchlings asleep at her feet.

Still too young, their eyes had not opened yet, but Alpheus wanted answers sooner rather than later, and a mother knows best.

"Well?" He demanded, glancing over at their mother, "are any of them of Her descent?" He was looking for the one attribute that's vital to his mission, the eyes of the Lightweaver.

Radiance looked at him with venom, then turned away from him. She did not speak. This was enough for him, he knew the answer.

"I want them gone immediately." he spoke sternly, absolute, and without emotion. Alpheus took one last look at them, turned, and left the cave without another word.

Seven sunrises later they were gone, Loyalists removing the hatchling without remorse, and Radiance was alone again.
